1) Please check the efficacy of the decapod air blast attack. I imagine it's supposed to be the big threat, but in an area where barbarian lobsters go berserk and dead fishmen strangle you and noncorporeal ghost fish stun you and give AOE buffs to other mobs, it's just way out of line. Shield boost, evasion boost, reflex boost, discipline boost - I'm not sure what's supposed to defend against it, but it wrecks my face every time, and as a barbarian my defenses are relatively in line with my offensive skills. I can't imagine how tough they are for armor/survival tert guilds.

2) Can we upgrade the appearance rate of krill/seaweed/clams/etc. for the cleanup task, or cut the number needed from 10 to 5? When I get this task I often end up sitting around for ~20 mins waiting for the substantial ripplegate to spawn to a new area. I've started refusing this task because it's literally faster to wait for the cooldown timer.

3) NMU-friendly source of Air Bubble would be swell, maybe in a shop in the fest for some plats?

If it helps, in a minute or three you can re-clean the objects you need to clean. I initially had similar issues trying to do the cleaning task because I kept waiting for new objects to spawn as a whole.

Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.

I did notice this, but sometimes an area will have no such items at all and you need to wait for the ripplegate to pop to another location. It's highly variable.

Some updates were made to the task areas earlier this evening.

* In general, fewer creatures will spawn, and they'll do so less frequently.
* The krill/clams/etc spawn based on the # of players in the area, and should happen more frequently. It polls the area on a timer (less than 1 minute), sees if any obstacles are present, counts # of players, and spawns more if needed. As someone else mentioned, there's a timer on each thing to prevent people from just spam {verb}ing the same thing, but it wears off.

The reefs are tough. Intentionally. The task that requires them also grants credit to everyone in the room on the task at the time. Team up! I know that can seem like a crazy idea sometimes, but that particular task is meant for you to get a group and work together to bring it down!

For those doing tasks -- remember to ask Ceryaen about your ecosphere from time to time! It grows over time as you earn more standing from doing the tasks. Likewise, it's how you convey your support to the factions, who also have gifts they'll offer based on your standing with them in particular. Don't lose it, you can't get another!

>2) Can we upgrade the appearance rate of krill/seaweed/clams/etc. for the cleanup task, or cut the number needed from 10 to 5?

See above; the rate was improved and also relies on others in the area. The number needed is randomized 4 to 12 when assigned; it's not always 10.

>3) NMU-friendly source of Air Bubble would be swell

I hear Fang Cove might have had this for a long time. Like 6 years. Some enterprising Estate Holder trader might see about getting into that market, eh?

>and you need to wait for the ripplegate to pop to another location.

Not accurate. You just need to stay in the area long enough for a polling cycle to happen so it detects you and can spawn what's needed. It would definitely be faster to wait on that than to wait on the ripplegate to move to a new pocket.

>So I just died after spending a solid 84 seconds worth of roundtime attempting to retreat from a reef

Sorry you had a bad run! These are still new and folks are getting a handle on them. Like with general combat, if you want away from a creature, FLEE is likely a better option than trying to spam retreat. Hopefully with the other updates earlier this will be a little less frustrating.

In some cases it looks like the rooms don't allow for FLEE though.

Yeah, unfortunately I'm going to have to echo this. Hopefully these can be tweaked in some way. I've had three deaths already from simply moving into a room a decapod was in (while trying to get back through the ripplegate after a stun / bleeders from another decapod in another room) and getting hit with a shockwave attack -- makes a lot of these tasks frustrating to the point of not wanting to even try again.

Perhaps the fact that it's AOE and hits everything, even if not directly engaged, is a step too far in terms of how powerful of an attack it is?

The decapod special attack seems to respect damage barriers, are people using those and still getting obliterated by it?

In my case, I've had both ES and a MAF up. Can confirm that the combination knocks the impact down (from the first blow at least) to bleeders, rather than bleeders and stun. Still get completely messed up if they hit me again.

Oof, that's rough. I wonder what sort of contest it uses...would some combination of stat boosts help? I've had it miss me a few times recently, but messaging didn't seem to indicate what the key may have been that I noticed.

A nacre-plated Torbisan decapod begins to scuttle towards you, clubarms held forward and eyestalks waving in agitation!
A nacre-plated Torbisan decapod loses all track of harmful intention toward you and disengages.
Rearing back, a nacre-plated Torbisan decapod flares a pair of brilliantly colored palps. It ratchets its clubarms in, close to its face, a shuddering groan accompanying the buildup of strain and tension on flexible chitin and tendons. Everything seems to slow as several events occur nearly simultaneously -- eyestalks snap downward, focusing on you. Swimmerets position behind to brace the creature in place. The clubarms groan with an increasing pitch, and suddenly lash forward, too quick to follow!

Having mistimed its shattering punch, the Torbisan decapod rumbles in vexation.
[You're incredibly balanced and overwhelming your opponent.]

I had a much better experience this morning with the spawn toned down. (Though granted, I was also the only person in the area at the time.) I'm sure I'll still get the occasional decapod hit out of the blue, but that's not quite so bad without a massive swarm of enemies waiting to pounce on me. And when not having to constantly face 4, the challenge seems reasonable. Taking into account that there'll be things like a decapod I can't debilitate in time, or that enrage buff. I imagine if a reef spawns and people don't kill it, though, it'll still be time to go do something else unless people are keeping it occupied.

Good thought. I wonder what it might have been? I've been using SW which gives me a reflex +3, to no avail. Tried that approach a couple of times this morning but either (a) got decasmashed immediately on going through the ripplegate, or (b) decasmashed immediately on a decapod showing up in my room.

One other suggestion I have (if the decasmash attack isn't going to be tweaked) is potentially turning the room on the other side of the ripplegate into a no mob room. It's a little frustrating to get attacked / half-killed when stuck in RT immediately on emerging from the ripplegate. Realize full well that this would cut the number of usable rooms in the area down...

The decasmash (I liked that lol) is... not fun.

I have yet to do anything except run away from them. :(

>The decapod special attack seems to respect damage barriers, are people using those and still getting obliterated by it?

I was using tenacity meditation and getting obliterated, this is the only generic damage barrier available to me.

>This! Buffs are important! Take every advantage you can, including asking others for buffs you may not have yourself! These aren't 24/7 hunting areas where you go to backtrain. These are creatures only available for a limited time that are meant to be challenging and to encourage group work. They're prepared for you; it's on you to prepare for them.

I understand this reasoning and that it's important to make quest critters uniquely challenging, but I question the design of the decapod attack specifically. Ghostlight fish and lobsters seem more in line I think: the fish teleport to melee, stun, and use something Rage of the Clans on other critters, while the lobsters can berserk for significant damage.

Decapod attacks seem designed to deal with MAF + Iron Constitution + some other native barriers, which makes them difficult for Barbs/Thieves or magic terts who don't have a high sorcery skill to safely use a bunch of stacking damage barriers.

I'm using a shield buff, an evasion buff, a reflex buff, an armor buff and the one damage barrier available to me and they can still kill me in with 3 blasts if they all decide to spam it at once.

How about the decapods can't use their special attack until they get to pole range, i have had multiples hit me either JUST as i entered the room or just as they spawned in it, literally immediately. I fail to understand why this sort of ridiculousness continues to go through and get approved in QC.

Even though I have not participated (yet!) I just want to say thank you for listening to players concerns and being willing to make changes based on the feedback given.
