Welcome to the most disappointing HE in the last 5 yrs. So, we trashed the spider because some genius felt they could do better. But this event falls flat. The whole event lacks luster. The stores are extremely mediocre. And the ONLY reason to go is for the Gift. The Eddy itself, while nice it is even better for the freeloading player population, who wants to bypass inventory restrictions. Way to go, Simu!
The alterations this year are extremely specific which isolates a lot of the player base from having an opportunity in addition only taking 5 folks per alteration finishes- the restrictions. COUNTLESS, first time alteration clients have been bypassed with this system --- so glad they bought a ticket. (sidenote: some how Mrs Potts and chip from Beauty in the beast became a tattoo? copyright much?)
It’s amazing that during a year, when players are pretty much dying for something positive and encompassing – there is little to zero care for player feedback. I am sure in discussions to come, the players opinion won’t be able to compete with the “data”.
The games this year are the WORST. Crown and Anchor stays packed and is the only worth the play time. But it’s extremely restricting to how many players can play. But the Development team won’t expand it and add curtains or put a timer in to let other players have a turn.
The Tunnel game is 10 runs at 6 minutes each… for the love of god, why? 60 minutes for maybe a decent prize out of a shared prize pool.
The otters/ darkbox have such a high fail and damage ratio – and for the love of all things holy will still can’t put a healer in a HE event?
Bingo --- takes up the whole screen and has to be marked every time…. And take a minimum of 10 minutes for a yo-yo….
ALSO, where is the Merelew culture? There are like minimal stores that even involve the merelew culture. So we unveil this whole new culture/race… and we get nothing. The furniture stores could have had loads of merelew inspired items. Clothing would have been fun. Mermaid-scale sleeping bags, in the different fractions colors, fraction stores …
But instead We get to chase ripplegates in higher level hunting areas? How does that make any sort of sense or encourage any sort of sense of discovery.
RIP material farming.. you need to be on crown and anchor to have a chance for that.== which the F2p fleets are sitting on with a nice new +200 inventory count... which costed only around 10 bucks because I am sure they handed off the passes to the corn maze to their main.
At least Gortik is making cool stuff.
Also, why did we make the cornmaze more intricate... it didn't make it better
And the folding tables in from of the events is fairly tacky.. at least create a ticket booth with marquee.
What a seriously disappointing year,
The player of Zoomba

Hello disney?
a tattoo of a tattoo of a grandmotherly-looking stout teapot brandishing a sword in one hand leading a dappled donkey in the other. Astride the donkey a smiling chipped teacup looks as proud as it can, at the quarry behind its mount - an angry looking chain-wrapped troll. Beneath the troll an unfurled banner in gold reads ~No I.O.U~ on her shoulder.

>>So, we trashed the spider because some genius felt they could do better.
I say this as someone who loved the spider, the way it developed throughout the years, and especially all the lore behind it: the spider was turning into a mess and I'm glad they decided to start fresh. It was a slog to find new shops and/or updated shops throughout a mostly old-shop map. It was starting to become a requirement to use Genie just to reasonably find stuff in it This map is more compact and I know that anything I enter is going to be new.
>>The stores are extremely mediocre.
This would have most likely been your viewpoint even if the event was still on the Spider, unless you really wanted to see some old shops that weren't updated for years still around. I'll admit that I miss Gear Shop, but at this point it's more because it had clothes with nice verb scripts that were a great go-to suggestion for someone wanting some clothing altered to better fit them, versus the specific items themselves.
(Now that I'm thinking more about it, it would be cool if next year's alterer's hub had a simple shop full of "unremarkable" clothes that existed just so folks had some nice base-level scripty clothes to use with the alterers, if they were interested, similar to how the alterer's hub also includes a registration room this year, which was also a nice touch.)
I personally think the shops are fine and that included accepting that the vast majority of stuff in it just isn't for me because I already have my own version of that stuff. I think this is doubly-so for folks who have a good deal of altered/special/MT stuff. This is no different than my views on most MT event end-loot, really. These shops probably have a lot more impact with players who have a few years of experience in DR and haven't really had a great number of opportunities to start building their character's "look" just yet.
>>The games this year are the WORST.
I miss Boggle Blast as much as the next correct person, but I think this is a little extreme.
Sea Otter Smash is a less fatal/frustrating version of Blood and Gourd, which is great (I'd love the win/loss balance look at it a bit, since the cost per play went up). Bingo is nice if you want to try to earn some coin and/or play a longer/fun "group" game (that said I wouldn't mind one room more specifically set for longer games and one for shorter games). Darkbox is doing what Darkbox has done for years, but nothing wrong with suggesting an healer somewhere on the island (heck, I already suggested a place like the grass eel rooms on the Spider for my own needs!).
If your main goal is prize-grinding, sure Crown and Anchor is the best option, and having more rooms or a timer to boot folks out if they're in there too long seems fair, but let's not get too carried away with how the games are playing out. It's not really different from other years, except the practically criminal removal of Boggle Blast.
>>There are like minimal stores that even involve the Merelew culture...different faction colors, faction stores.
Faction-based stores would have been neat, especially if access to some items were based on reputation. Ironically, I'm hoping prize pool for next year's games is a bit less heavy on the ocean/fish/etc-themed prizes.
>>Also, why did we make the cornmaze more intricate... it didn't make it better
I don't think the corn maze changed at all. I only went 2-3 times so far, but it feels like the main type of corn maze run is no different than what it was the first year. I think the "quick" runs are neat if you're not as into the crow/locust hunting or fighting the bosses.
Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.

Per Lyneya in Discord (sorry guys and girls, gotta go to the unofficial discord to hear from the lead GM):
"Not this year, unfortunately.. [adding more rooms to Crown and Anchor] would require building more rooms and rolling the segment over from the development instance (where we build the rooms!) and that would wipe out the tracking data in the shops"
So... tracking data on the shops is more important than players being locked out of C&A. Because only 42 people can get in, and once someone gets in, they never leave.

I have to confess I also have some fears about the pernicious effects this could cause to the veil between OOC and IC down the line.
You say, "How about an engraving of Odin the Allfather on my shield?"
Merchant says, "Sorry Anuind, Odin is a Norse god and they don't exist in Elanthia."
You say, "Right! How about a wizened old man missing an eye, mounted atop a massive eight-legged horse. A pair of ravens circle him overhead and a pair of huge wolves flank his back?"
Merchant says, "Coming right up!"
You whisper, "Welcome to Elanthia, Odin..."

I will chime in here and say that as someone that has just about all her items altered, I've been digging the focused alteration sessions quite a bit. Being able to customize a spell or arrival message like I have this fest is amazing, and unless I just do an about face with Kyth's "theme", these are things that'll stay with me through another decade or two (!) of wardrobe changes. I'm not saying that all HE alteration sessions should be specialized, but I would counter that for every "first time alteration client" that won't take advantage of a specialized session, there is likely someone who has been playing for many years that won't take advantage of a simple-items only session. Should GM's keep an eye on the balance between the two? Of course! But for me, this is the first time in 2, maybe 3 HE events that I have actually used all 3 of my alteration slots.
On the games, no real disagreement with the OP. As an emapth, I do "bypass" the PITA-factor for darkbox and otter, but I can absolutely see the problem with needing more viable paths to prizes.
I have been talking extensively with a friend about this, and what we think it really comes down to though is not the C&A limits, but rather not having any other no-wound-penalty activities to do on the island that offer a reasonable path to the game prize pool and crafting materials. If you aren't into games with damage/death penalties, Zasele & Co. filled a missing gap in festival activities the past couple years in both that chance for crafting materials, but also giving a reason to re-visit the festival grounds other than just when there is an alterer or raffle. We know those crafting tasks won't be back this year, and in accepting that this is a transition year, it's expected there will be juggling of "what was" into "what is". However, if you had other things to do, you might just play C&A for an hour or two to get your daily "jackpot" prizes, then move over to other activates that have a higher chance at the sacks and mats, thereby taking some of the pressure off getting & keeping one of the spots in C&A.
If there were other activities, maybe some sort of fishing merchant that trades a crafting material sack for certain fish (this is an island with multiple docks to fish from after all!), a Catch-the-Critter type game that was heavy on the icons as prizes, changing the water course to give a material sack prize each heat (the main scoring could still be counted from the 1st time doing the heats, just continue to give prizes when heats are repeated), change bingo to only give jackpot and crafting material sack prizes, etc., it would help to take the pressure off those C&A rooms being perpetually full.

Re: Disappointing facts about HE on 11/24/2020 04:40 AM CST
Out of curiosity, I decided to watch the Venue room for C&A. Between 10 pm ET and 5:30 am, only 8 people were able to get into a table room at C&A. At this point, I think everyone that bought a ticket to HE should, at a minimum, get a gift bag with 30 pulls from the jackpot prize pool. It's ridiculous that 40 accounts can basically monopolize one of the games because the GM(s) can't be bothered to export the shopping data before pushing out 3 or 4 more curtains, or just raise the player caps on each room.
