So as part of Tuesday Tidings, it became possible to actually find out what the quality of a telescope is. Huzzah! Unfortunately, this involves the STUDY verb, which can't be used on telescopes that are on display in a shop. Boo!

Would it be possible to have the STUDY verb enabled for shop merchandise? Or, failing that, to have placards or signs or something in shops that sell telescopes, with a note about their quality?

Posting at the advice of GH Idre.

I don't think we can enable studying things being sold. Some items bond through being studied or other verbs, they all handle it differently, and globally allowing study could cause that neat new bonded widget you buy to...already be bonded to someone else. D'oh!

That said, I will relay the request for signs!

One of the shops (I forget which, it sells boots) has a "floor model" that isn't for sale that lets you study it to get a sense of how things work in a more "live" version of the boots. I thought this was a really neat feature of the shop.

Also a huge fan of how many of the end-prize shop items during previous MT events had their surfaces include a read that gives some understanding of the items on them. I don't think all shop surfaces at an event like HE needs that, but it wouldn't hurt to convey some neat stuff that might not be understood by players right out the gate (for example, I didn't even realize the shops selling containers that work with AUTOOLOOT were selling containers that work with AUTOLOOT, and instead were just neat and kinda-expensive containers!).

Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.

I agree, I would love this feature!

The prices for items at MT events and Hollow's Eve are at a point where it's not cost-effective (or prudent) to "pay and find out" what an item is for or can do.

Being able to know the mechanics of an item (e.g. is it an autoloot container or just a bag? or is it a verby toy or just a grasshopper that shows up in my LOOK?)

More details make for a more compelling reason to buy something (or not, hehe)

Thanks again!

Since it sounds like globally enabling STUDY might not be feasible for technical reasons, we'll try to keep the request for some form of signage in mind.

Possible ways to find out more about merchandise in quest prize rooms or shops:
• reading detached signs
• reading notes attached to the sales surface
• reading the sales surface directly

If the information you're looking for isn't available in game, feel free to ask on the forum, and we will try to respond or make the information available in game if appropriate.
