I've been around for three or four of these Elpalzi attacks and not gotten any RPAs even though other people I know have. I'm a front line attacker and in the most recent one I was one of the first people on the scene and killed probably close to 100 of them. Not trying to come across ungrateful for the experience, because it has been exciting and fun, but it just bothers me that some of my friends have reported getting RPAs and others, myself included, haven't.

My question would be, were you roleplaying or hunting Elpalzi? Were you on the gweth making reports and asking where you're needed, talking to people ingame to coordinate defenses and actually interacting with other people or were you silently going around killing? If you were actively engaged in the RP aspect, then keep at it and within a short time you'll be getting RPAs from players as well as GMs which will mean more in the long run.

I know I've awarded some PIRPs the last couple invasions to players that seemed to step up their RP.
Are you sure your friends got RPAs from GMs and not PIRPs or RPAs from players?
For the record, I haven't gotten any RPAs for the last two invasions I've been in either but I have given PIRPs to other players.

Try not to think about it. When you think about it, your actions become a lot stiffer. You'll either become overly 'involved' to the point where it feels forced, or you run the risk of letting yourself get 'sulky' (note that I'm not saying you're being this way right now, just trying to put it in a frame of reference) because you don't think you're getting something you deserve.
Over time, you'll get your just reward for doing things positively. The new GM team involved with P1 events have demonstrated they recognize those who show an interest in being involved. Quick note: Positively doesn't really mean good.

Gwething? Yes
Talking back to the Elpalzi taunts? Yes
And Elriic, yes, this was a bit of a sulky attention whory sort of post, but that said, I was active in several of the events, was on gweth, participating in the killing and useful in triage, was a fast responder to reports to enemy locations. Forgiveness, please, but I'm a bit bitter is all. I don't expect them every time, but I didn't get any in any of the events for "positive" activity.

So, something to consider when participating in large-scale, large-area events like invasions.
Things for the GM running the invasion are absolutely crazy.
We have to:
Watch the death count.
Watch the critter count -- slow down or drop more as appropriate.
Watch the gweth.
Watch the GM thing that handles the thing with the thing.
Scan the area for people to throw cats at (seriously folks, I do not think hanging out in the middle of the street is safe!)
All of this while dealing with a massive amount of scroll!
We're flying around town doing this and doing that all while watching this and watching that. Sometimes, a player catches our eye. More often, we're just trying to keep on top of the nightmare we've unleashed.
RPAs are never guaranteed. I'm sorry if some of you feel like you've been ignored, but please rest assured that if you continue to participate and RP, one of these times you will be in the right place at the right time!

Yes, that is absolutely important to do, without it the whole game crashes, no serious, if they didn't DR would END. I have no proof of this concept, but it's a well established theory in certain circles, on certain parts of the internet, by certain people of the approriate path/gender/ethics[not ethnicity], or I am making this all up ;).
However I do think that was the coolest line in everything you posted about, just saying :) !
Oh and thanks for the RPAs when I get them (meant for all the GMs), and while it does make me feel like I'm playing the game right when I get them after an event, I too know I have been or feel I've been missed, I just feel that well sometimes the GMs are probably just insanely busy, or because my character is being too stealthy (part of his RP) he's overlooked oh well.
Anyways thanks for the Invasions. Hope I catch one.

I drop my pants and moon people when I can. I can't give PIRPs out, so I do what I can. I really enjoy the invasions specially when I can get in them. I really like sometimes how they look slow, and then bang a million come out kill everyone, and the town is over ran. Those are my favorites.

If you die and have fun doing it, it's great.
Personally though, I'd prefer more badass mobs and less exploding furries.

I hate to say greed drives the human spirit but the best remembered enemies are the ones that left rare or special items. The Gorbesh Commanders with their scabbards come to mind, or the giant swords of the cyclops, or the Outrider broadswords. I am hoping that the upper bosses posses some item that becomes a real treasure. I think this would also inspire those that dont care about the situation to pay attention.
Just a thought .. X

Warning: book forthcoming
I never received RPAs during invasions - it's just so pell mell I never expected that anyone was paying attention to individual players - it's cool to find out they are given out sometimes.
In my experience, the best way to get RPAs is to go out of your way to infuse life into the game in a way that inspires others in a significant way, even if for just a moment. I've found that RPing on a small scale is expected, and occurs enough that GMs appreciate that you are IC and RPing, but they aren't inspired enough themselves to go out of their way to recognize it because that's what you're supposed to do.
But if you can find ways to walk into a room full of people and somehow interact with them all at the same time, in a positive way (even if you're dark, evil, whatever); if you're able to "wake people up" they recognize that you are having an impact on others' fun - and that is something that they want to encourage. They want to convey a "keep it up" message, because not only are you RPing well, but you are making the game fun for whomever is in that room, and you are actually having an impact on customer satisfaction. Sort of a stretch for me to assume that, but I think it's probably true even if the GMs aren't completely cognizant of that element of why they're rewarding you.
As an example (and players both mocked and encouraged me) I wrote almost 300 quickly written 2 stanza/4 lines per stanza songs - 1 for each player I met. So if I went into the empath guild for a heal, I wrote little stupid songs for each empath (could be 5 or 6 empaths before I left). I wrote songs at the ranger guild, in hunting areas, at festivals, etc, etc everywhere I went - and I wasn't a bard. It was fun because I would sing it to them before I left the area I was in, but I also had those songs as macros in case I saw them 3 weeks later on a ferry, or in a hunting area if I passed through their room, or in jail, or infront of the bank, or anywhere. I had their song so I just typed .urwin, and boom he heard his song as I ran past him. If I was in a GM consult because I attacked someone unconsented in the early days, I would write an annoying song for the GM who was interviewing me - so after I got the warning I would .GMname. They would chuckle and send me back. I wrote flirty songs, insulting songs (that made the target secretly chuckle), etc., etc. I wrote them for everyone, empaths, rangers, etc., et al. When you do things like this everyone in the room has a reaction whether a a chuckle, an eye-roll, or a confrontation.
I also suggest you build-out your character's RP "features".
I used a lot of SMILE and ACT verbs. I had dozens and dozens - I received lots of feedback on these - lots of people thought i was stupid for doing it and lots thought it was cool. For example, in the days when I could lift lots of gems from people or totally empty their pockets on the ferry, I camped the ferry for hours. So I wrote like 20 SMILES and ACTs for the environment. For example: SMILE leans on the ferry gunnel eyeballing your purse as a briny gust of wind causes his hair to briefly swirl. Or: ACT suddenly rushes towards you and attempts to shove his hands into your pockets! (This wasn't a bad thing because everything was an "attempt".
I also had a speech impediment. Now, it is time-honored to dismiss speech impediments or accents as stupid. Are they really though? No. Everyone has an accent from Brooklyn to Boston. They exist, and it can enrich your character's persona. In my case, my PC was an under-educated classless act.
In addition, for years, my character was a real weezle. He was a coward with low circle PCs (would piss them off then RUN and inspire them to chase me around because they thought I was small and skeered), and a total wise-ass with HLCs - so he fought every HLC he could, and died a LOT. The gweth was a big part in both scenarios, so it got the necessary attention (I was/am a total attention whore - which is fine as long as you're actually fun).
I also did some org work, etc.
It was important for me to get into the PIRP system so that I could encourage other players I was involved with. And, after the GMs finally "got" that I was trying to do something fun, not just griefing, I think the GMs saw that PIRP was actually a useful tool for me to encourage others, so someone (shakhan, maybe Solomon) seemed sympathetic when I only needed a couple more RPAs to cross the threshold and made it happen one day on the ferry by giving me a couple back-to-back.
Yes, you can accumulate small numbers of RPAs by a one-off gweth exchange, or something you do in an invasion. But when GMs get to know you as a consistent, hardcore RPer, who regularly puts work into improving your RP because you want to liven up the joint, have a positive effect on the player base (even as a bad guy), develop a strong persona (even if your persona is being a constitutionally or emotionally weak adventurer), and you can get that effort in front of people all the time, you win the RPA game. I never looked for RPAs till I wanted into the PIRP system, but I got enough RPAs to make me feel that what I was doing was validated by them. And God knows I WANT VALIDATION!!!11!1!ONE!
