I am having SO much fun with the current batch of crazy rolling through Crossing (I mean the invasion, not my friends). To the GM handling this, you are doing a -great- job, this has pulled in the people I haven't seen in AGES and I'm having a blast. Love the range in critters and the coo-koo banana pants GMPCs running around. -Thank you- for putting in the time and effort to give us such a fun situation to RP with. I'm having fun and it's so great to see the people getting involved taking the time to RP, interact, and be awesome.
Okay, I think I broke some sort of record on happy excited babbling.

I was going to make this exact post. Things I really liked:
1) Critters divided by difficulty so I didn't have to worry about crushing the little guys' things or getting stomped (too badly) if I went to the right area of the invasion.
2) Invasion lasting longer than 5 minutes. I have never really gotten to participate in an invasion before because always by the time I got there everything was dead.
2a) Related to the above, invasions across multiple days and times! So that if I missed one, I still had hopes of getting in on another.
3) Invasions in multiple locations (like Leth) requiring some coordination and movement on the part of the defenders.
4) Repeating the visions at various times so that you still might get it even if you were logged out the first time.
5) Poison gas clouds really added some depth. Option to Zephyr away clouds was awesome.
My only suggestion for improvement would have been for us to be able to do something to affect the cauldron of poison, to neutralize it with a bit of creativity or something. Same for being able to take down the bodies. And maybe for the NPCs to have responded to some of us on the gweth (maybe they did but I didn't see it). I did feel like maybe (??) our actions got Sejaro to walk the Road rather than turn back to necromancy, but really I have no idea.

I'm glad someone thinks so, I guess, but from where I'm sitting this doesn't appear to be happening. At all. At least not the part about different times. It was especially annoying to get a vision somewhere around 5:00 or 5:30 on Saturday and think something might finally happen at a reasonable hour for a change, only to read about things happening much later. Like always. It would be nice to get a chance to join in once in a while; the whole "everything always happens in the middle of the night" thing got old about a decade ago.

I'm not sure if it's even possible, but I would love to see atmospheric messaging when invasions hit towns.
"Civilians run past yelling and pointing towards the <NE> Walls."
something kinda like what happens at Raven's Point would be my ultimate dream. I'd love to be able to get an overall sense of the success/failure of the defense efforts, or if a new front is opening up (e.g. now attacking the west gate, but hey it's crows).

One of my things is being a scout, surveyer and intelligence, and I frequent many different rooms in game, and some of them have hardly any script, and I have not seen any of those messages. Disappointing, I should get my vision checked.

i also would like to say the invasions lately have been amazingly cool. However, the Xalas dont drop anything but gear, the majority of which looks AWESOME (love the ball and chain from the shredders) but i awake to this being pasted on aim to me:
"System Announcement: Fair Warning: The Xala'shar equipment WILL start generating Social Outrage for those that are wearing or otherwise handling it. This includes the older stuff and all newly dropped equipment."
From a "geez that stuff looks scary it SHOULD cause SO" standpoint i can see it being logical.
On the other hand, the xalas don't drop anything BUT gear, and I haven't heard of any other invasion loot
causing SO. So my question is basically this ;
Why have a week long invasion of critters who drop nothing rewarding when you kill them but gear then make it
even more hazardous to have said gear?
Also why announce it when so few people are online? i predict alot of people are going to get SO purged and it's
IMO kinda crappy.
One last question, where the hell is Veyne in all this? or whatever his name is. The so called leader of the Xala?
Sorry, grammar and paragraph structure are not my strongpoints.

Just don't hold it/wear it/use it in justice zones. You'll be fine.

I agree with Belthazarr.. Lot of people are going to be confused about suddenly obtaining SO when they log in that have missed the System Announcement.
Hell, I didn't know it til Belthazarr showed me the message cause I was one of those people who weren't logged in.
But I don't think it's fair to have this week long invasion (which don't get me wrong, has been AMAZING), then suddenly a week after people looting them and such, suddenly say, "OH BTW GAIS! We're suddenly putting SO on that gear!"

Because GM's are devious like that :D
I think that's a pretty cool thing honestly, it's something different.
>Also why announce it when so few people are online? i predict alot of people are going to get SO purged and it's IMO kinda crappy.
I believe this will be rare. One or two here and there, and that's about it if even that many at all. Even if someone fails to read the forums or hasn't been following the invasion stuff too closely, it's only a matter of time until someone will announce on the gweth something along the lines of "Don't pick up their gear it causes SO and you might be purged"
Also, I kind of wish they'd not mentioned anything and let us all wonder what the hell was causing us to accrue SO for a bit before telling us, if at all. We got some smart players, I'd like to think we would have figured it out eventually (cautiously optimistic on that heh).

well i am not sure how difficult it is for non-necros to decrease in SO, but if it's anything along the lines
of necro SO, you can go into a spiral of SO pain pretty quick. and as for smart players... don't hold your breath hehe.
yes GM's are devious and MOST of the time it's amusing/entertaining
but IMO this is the ball being dropped this time.

Getting busted for forbidden practices in this context is essentially failing a "Am I a dope?" test.
In other words, it's not smart to walk around wearing the regalia of the ultra-Perverse necromantic cult. Because most people on the street are going to go "RUN IT'S THE XALA'SHAR!" and not "Looks like that guy wearing Xala'shar outfit sure killed a lot of Xala'shar today to get all that cool looking stuff!"
But, once again, this is easily circumvented if you just don't have the stuff out in justice zones.

This pretty much sums it up in my opinion. It's not a matter of "Oooh, that's a horrific and scary robe you got." type of SO. But more like, "Whoa, you are dressed up just like those guys invading us." type of SO.
Not the same thing really. I'm with Danoryiel on this one. I kinda wish they didn't tell anyone and we would have defiantly figured it out. It could have been pretty fun for someone like, I dunno, Madigan to get a whopper of SO and the repercussions/investigation of something like that.
Anyways, I'm all for more 'bad-guy' type items. Or, this status being applied to some older items as well. IE: sewer rat gang armbands, etc.
System Announcement: The Night Sun has been snuffed. It's dark again. Now the scary stuff comes out.

I think that's the entire point. GMs know player behavior patterns and use it to mess with us. They know we're likely to gobble up random interesting looking loot dropped by invasion critters, and the SO hit is almost a non consideration.
I would like to know if I need to unvault and destroy the stuff I grabbed, since it wasn't SO gear at the time (and is obviously vaulted). I mostly don't want to renew my vault and transfer it to ratha.
I did like the double-bladed broadsword though. Am I right in imagining this is a bifurcated blade, instead of two on either side of the pommel, or two blades next to each other on the pommel?

"Bad-Guy" items are items that enable people to be Bad-Guys. Items that remove your ability to enter cities are the last thing a real bad-guy wants.

Yeah well that was why I used 'bad-guy' and not bad-guy, since 'bad-guy' is really just a social perception at this stage. Would it be better if I capatilized one? Bad-Guy and bad-guy? :)
I mean we are not talking about dirt-holding pouches or shadowsilk. We're essentially talking about 'uniforms' used by these invading parties/groups and your characters ability to wear/hold/store them without some sort of social backlash. If one day Alexii's Outcast pin started causing him SO if he goes to Ilithi, it would seem reasonable to me as well. Because down there, they are 'bad-guys'. See what I'm getting at here?
Anyways, that's just how I see things.

Just to stress the point... I believe that, when it comes to these items, there is no SO hit for taking the items. You get an SO hit for displaying the items while in town, and even then it's a temporary SO up until the point where you actually get a forbidden practices charge.
In other words:
1) Picking up the item outside of justice zones: Okay, but lookout!
2) Using/wearing the item outside of justice zones: Okay, but lookout!
3) Using/wearing the item inside of justice zones: You won't get automatically accused just for entering the majority of justice zones (aka: Shard's guards at the gate might take note, but simply walking into a room in most contexts won't cause a fuss), but if someone accuses you of Necromancy lookout!
4) Using/wearing the item inside of justice zones and using a town service: Now you're in trouble!
5) Having the item in a container: probably okay.
6) Having the item in a vault: definitely okay.

Keep in mind, necromancers get Social Outage. Non-necromancers get Social Corruption.
What's the difference? Mostly a matter of time. Try as you might a non-necromancer will never go into the SO Death Spiral (assuming they get rid of whatever was causing their corruption in the first place).

I also agree there's really no need for that system announcement. It should've been common sense and people who present themselves as heroic saviors but running around in invader uniforms because they "looked cool" shouldn't be surprised that they're getting thrown rotten tomatoes by the guys they were protecting and accused of pretending to be on their side etc. Xalashar garb isn't quite the kind of things you should be wearing on display trying to convince people they're just trophies.

I rather like that idea, but since currently SO is world-wide and not regionalized, I imagine that may require a rewrite.

Yeah. It's okay though. Maybe one day. I really like the idea of 'Social Corruption' and the ramifications it could bring raining down around those who commit it. Is is wrong for me to hope that horrible things happen to my character? :)

now, if wearing said garb had any sort of tangible "benefit", say, said critter wouldn't attack you if you looked like one of "them" - I would be inclined to agree. But, individual soldiers have taken "trophies" from vanquished foes since armies have been around.
That said, I do wish DP armor wouldn't poof away when you try to get it. :-)

Trophies are one thing, but I have reason to believe that if a British soldier walked around in Nazi regalia during/post-WWII, locals would have taken issue with it. /godwin

Be persistent with DP gear, I've gotten everything but their knives and conjurer stuff.
Assassin tool belt was the biggest pain to get and small. The armor's basic and heavy, but at least it looks neat especially the plate armor.
DS katamba bows are similar. I didn't have any luck with Xala'shar staves.
Blindfolds and bandages didn't seem to cause SO too.

I think the bandages were just late to the party. However, I picked up a blindfold without messaging too.

This appears to be a dangerous item to be seen in possession of.
You pick up some filthy bandages.
You put your bandages in your canvas sack.
I would double check, but all my crap's been impounded! Speaking of whick, how long does this corruption last? I was hunting with it and forgot to take it off when I went back to town and got busted at the bank (twice, second time trying to pay off the debt from the first time).
Re: Necro lovers and their invasion-y goodness on 07/19/2012 02:26 PM CDT
I just now found this thread, but I had posted elsewhere that Kaxis picked up a bit of SO, or SC?, somewhere along the way. I at first thought someone had accused him but then found out that the necro items could cause it. I had picked up a dagger, scimitar, and a green headwrap. It would seem these might have caused the trouble. I dumped them and have had no further problems.
Only curious part is that at no time did I ever wear, use, or otherwise brandish any of the items. I just picked them up, put them in my containers, and promptly forgot about them until the dwarf guard in the vault tried to get me arrested. I also never got any warning message. My system alerts me when there's a system announcement since I don't want to miss them.
It's still possible it might not have been the items and instead someone reported Kaxis for being a necro I suppose.

"That said, I do wish DP armor wouldn't poof away when you try to get it. :-)"
Some of that Dragon Priest Assassin armor is in game FYI.
A Dragon Priest assassin sweeps the area with its serpentine eyes and snarls, "You can not hide forever! Your fate hasss already been sssealed!"
A Dragon Priest assassin eyes narrow as it points at you and hisses, "You ssshall be retired, mark!"

i'm not referring to the assassins <i can't hunt those yet!> , but to the ones who are with the shalswar. the only thing i've managed to grab from them <and only once> was a tailband, the rest poofs like Death spirit gear.
