I've placed it as a suggestion to a few of the GMs that I had spoken with but I figured I'll just get it onto here to be more 'out in the open' than just being mentioned IG.
I had a run-in with a few of the GMPCs and without getting into details (cause it's none of your business), I ended up having to find out by friends that they were GMPCs. My suggestion is that these GMPCs should have an option in their PROFILE stating that they are GMPCs so that we know who our characters are dealing with.
I was suggested by one of the GMs to use Elanthipedia to check who they are. Frankly, I am not going to 'Elanthipedia' every person my character comes across in conflict.

Umm,
It's late and because of that I might be missing something, but I'll ask from my POV.
Why should it matter if your dealing with a GMNPC or a PC, to our characters their just as flash and blood and able to walk, or make our character walk as any other person (I know we can't walk in the current set up, but I don't think our characters should know this).

Because of a situation that happened between my character VS a certain GM. As that being said, it's none of anyone's business of the exact details of the situation except for the GM and myself. As it stands, I just wanted to make my suggestion.

While it might not be your intention, this is reading as "I started a conflict with someone who turned out to be a GMNPC and it backfired badly."

If that's what you want to perceive it as, then do so. I'll log it away in my DNC Folder.
This is a SUGGESTIONS folder, not a conflicts. I'd appreciate it if you guys would comment on my suggestion on hand, not trying to pull my tongue for the info on what happened to have made me suggest this suggestion.

No one is conflicting with you. The issue is that even though who is and isn't a GMNPC is generally understood as common knowledge, and it's even sometimes beneficial for a GMNPC to be more anonymous than having a giant "THIS IS A GMNPC" blinker over his or her head, mainly because it prevents creating a bias that makes some people behave differently as a result of interacting with a GMNPC as opposed to a PC. Alternatively, if someone roleplays as a town guard (random example), and player X realizes it's a PC and not a GMNPC, they also might act differently by not acknowledging their roleplay.
If profile or any other way explicitly revealed who is and isn't a GMNPC, it would only help reinforce the bias I just explained above.

I think what Shadow is asking, and what confuses me, is in what situation could it possibly matter that you are dealing with a GMPC vs a PC? Maybe it's a failure of imagination on my part, but I simply don't understand why it should make a difference.
Because of that, it's difficult to support the suggestion, as it simply doesn't seem necessary. But if you illuminated some examples of why it might be necessary, that could help?

If you only want comments and opinions based on the original post, with no interest in discussion, then I must agree with what several have said. I can't imagine why it would matter. The only time I'd react any differently is if my character wanted to kill a closed/guarded player for something, and I was worried that the other player would report me (justifiably) for following my character's natural RP. In the seven years I've been back in DR, this has happened to me just once.

This cute little saying isn't as cute or witty as you think. Telling people responding to your posts that they don't matter at all is a sure fire way to get them to stop replying entirely. And if you don't want discourse, feel free to email feedback with your suggestions and stop posting them in public forums where players can discuss them.
And yes, it does read as 'I started fights and it went badly and they were GMNPCS so now I'm complaining'.
It shouldn't, and in fact doesn't, matter that someone is a PC or GMNPC.
Adding nothing to the conversation since 1834.

actually, it could be a situation of a GMNPC not playing by the same rules.
I.e....during those events -
<Accuse Lyras Necromancy> wouldn't have been very effective. :-)

Oh and last one, DR at any given time has a population of weenies that will criticize at the drop of a hat, don't take things personally it happens to everyone.

Re: GMNPCs & Profiles on 09/27/2012 09:57 AM CDT
I don't like the idea of GMNPCs having a special profile. If you were playing a table top RPG, you would treat PCs and NPCs with the same demeanor based on how your character would react to that kind of person. In general my PC doesn't care about politicians, ranks or titles. She probably would not know/care the Baron was in the room unless people were making a fuss about it (and even then probably wouldn't understand why he is important). Now if I was playing as a court scholar, I'd be all over knowing who's who, but I'd probably want to keep myself informed on who's important these days so I could recognize them.
On the other side of this argument, I know sometimes this is confusing for some of the lesser known GMNPCs (like Tachid was during the Lyras War for many) as I once witnessed someone report him for PVP. Newer players also have no idea what is going on when a GMNPC such as Tachid, Viggu, or Tralef attacks them, but they may also not know to use the PROFILE command so I don't know that it'd help them much.
Personally I've always preferred the idea that profiles say "Default" until someone sets them to none/closed. At least that way you'd be able to tell they really hadn't been modified yet when evaluating the information. Does not really solve the whole "How do I know it's a GMNPC" issue though.

I doubt anyone tried, first of all. And second of all, I imagine Lyrad probably has (had?) the power to run ROC so high that she'd still pass an accusation as she cast vivisection on the prince himself with the HOunds watching on.

Definitely not the LTs. My character's mate was beside herself with fury when the guards chastised her frivolous accusations of Balrock. (Not sure if he was an LT in Prime, since I can't find him on the Pedia.)

newp-
in prime:
Tachid who was awesome and probably secretly worked for the Estate council, Klusarlaik who was weak and abandonded, Gurglesnout who VorclafMeraud ate, and Sahfra was the little Elven girl who got turned and we got to watch her grow up into a little necrolord o doom.
Tachid also got put into a jar after Hodierna's holy unicorn statue got cuddly with him.
I heard you guy's got to see 2 demons throw down though.

in a nutshell - the necromancer guild there summoned Maelshyve. Mael fought Lyras. Lyras lost. Mael licked her wounds and retired back to her home under the riverhaven swamp.

that would be correct, sir! although it wasn't the ritual itself, it was dealing with the forces involved. Sort of like sticking your hand in a light socket with a fork. All that energy has to go somewhere!

Re: GMNPCs & Profiles on 09/28/2012 08:09 AM CDT
Unless I'm ordered by my superiors, none of my npc's will ever have a profile setting. The point is interaction in an ideally natural fashion. Using the blinking sign* defeats that purpose. Heck, I've got two seperate npcs that are in circulation for a long game and those interacting with them havent the first clue. That's perfect and just how it should be.

the only thing is, Lyras was profile closed. Which was just... wrong. :-) I mean, since she was out to kill everyone, she definately should have been Open. :-)

Re: GMNPCs & Profiles on 06/28/2013 08:10 PM CDT
The only reason why I suggested it was due to the fact that if you don't know they're an NPC and you're Closed PvP and some random person suddenly pops in and kills you while you're running around training, unaware that an invasion had even started, people would report the killer. Not saying that I would or wouldn't report them.
I don't know, I just thought maybe it was an Eh? suggestion.
At least put the NPCs on defaulted OPEN PVP because having every single one Closed PvP is also questionable on whether or not to attack in fear of being reported by actual PCs.
Hell, a lot of them are in fact listed in Elanthipedia as well but you don't always just think to search for the name. How about Open PvP plus a profile link to Elanthipedia if they have one?
Let's put all Negative Nancy's on an island of their own so Positive Pal's can live in harmony.
