Just assassinated someone, got this along with the kill:
An indescribable voice whispers in your mind, "Excellent. Excellent! A fine kill. Our benefactors have placed a hefty sum on Xxxxx's head - 28700 Kronars, to be exact. Contact one of my people to claim your reward"
An indescribable voice dripping with contempt whispers in your mind, "You're safe now, Ogdaro. Xxxxx had been sent to kill you, but he has clearly failed. Rest easy... For now."
But the message in the death window didn't reflect either the assigned assassination, or rebuffing the assassination attempt. It was just a standard death message. Thought that might be a bug.

Think I fixed the messaging issue.
>>Once a day sounds like it was believed that these contracts would take days to fulfill
Yep. The investigate tracker now clears when you kill your assassin or he kills you.
>>obligatory request for plat.
It'll make it there. This is exactly the kind of thing that wouldn't really get much testing or refinement in Plat, though, as its true form is best seen with a lot of people. It'll go to TF at the same time, I believe. I won't necessarily expect it to get PLAYED in either instance, but I want the code to be the same in all instances.
>>If empaths can have GS's count, does it also count for a necro to use their zombie to kill someone?
Not at this time.
>>Neither of these camps are good players if that's the case. Sad.
I think that judgement is too harsh. The truth is, some things don't really translate well into RP. Any justification would feel extremely contrived and probably wouldn't satisfy many people.

I think the one I proposed about an on-going tournament with cash prizes would fit pretty well and seems better to the alternative of a quasi-ooc game.

In all seriousness I think the roleplay-killing nature of the assassin game will wear off soon. Once people start getting fed up with the laundry list of PVP imbalances in DR, I think it will become less of a "entire city is trying to kill each other" scenario to "oh, someone's still doing that game" issue.
On the other hand, it might force Simu to finally address the fact that a lot of dragonrealms pvp is essentially first shot wins, and make it more fun/interesting, in which case roleplay may have walked the starry road.
Still too early to tell either way.

Re: Possible messaging bug? on 07/23/2010 08:21 PM CDT
I think I poorly worded my concerns with this. I did not mean to imply it was strictly unfair or stacked against me alone...I know for a fact that I can take apart severl chars 20 circ above me by careful use of MY buffs. That was and is my concern. That buffs aren't taken into consideration at the time matches are made....thats the equaivalant of telling a 15 year old and a 17 year old that they are pretty much the same, without taking into consideration the 17 year old has a driver liscense. A clear advantage when telling them to run a road race. And yes I understand that the calculations to take all buffs into consideration is unrealistic. I am just thinking that there could be a scale geared towards (availble buffs) vs (what can reasonably be stopped) if a 80th circle thief has buffs that make them more then a match for a 100th circle brbarian that is also buffed....there is a flaw in the matching system. the same is true of a 100th circ barbarian being able to tear apart a 120th circle bard when both are buffed. There are liekly many other variations that can be applied. To "evenly" match people....the probability of buff has to be taken into consideration. I'd no more relish a kill I knew was assured then I would stepping on ant.
Like I said, the idea is sound and I gave it a shot. Prolly will again. But when skills are so unbalanced as to allow buffs to make a player 20 circles below the target have skills equal to 20 circles over the target....well thats not fair to anyone. This isn't a complaint cause everyone knows I die more then enough that it doesn't bother me....what bothers me is the illusion of even matches when all variables are not factored.

You're thinking Combat 3.0, which is already being addressed, what with Combat 3.0 being in production.

>> Craxor QQ
From what I've seen everything is fairly evenly matched. Had you seen him or fired first at him, you would've taken him down easily. Right now PvP combat is all about the first shot/hit/cast. It's because of how damage is assigned and this will be fixed(hopefully) in Combat 3.0. You've had you experiences in PvP. We've all seen logs at this point, I'm sure. I'm not sure why you expected this to be any different.
P.S. Circles don't mean anything. Everything is being lined up by skills and stats. So you could be 150th and an over-trained sandbagging 66th circle barbarian could walk in and 1-shot you if she had enough skill and collect the bounty for it.
I will continue to get blunter on this topic until people get the message or my posts contain enough profanity to be removed. - Armifer

Nope, and it won't. The burden is on you to remember :).

You people are such sheep. Think critically for a moment. When has Simu ever released a combat system that was balanced for PVP?
Oh, that's right, never.
IF you think that Combat 3.0 will magically erase all pvp balance issues, you're oblivious to reality. Until Simu decides to make a specifically focused analysis of the dynamics of pvp, there will always be winners and losers in the metagame. We know they've been talking about PVE changes, reducing open rolls, armor and parry usefulness, and extraneous weapon skills, but as far as I can recall they have never said they intend to balance all of the changes against each other for pvp.
In other words, there is no guarantee pvp will be any more balanced than it is now. We might see the balance shift away from one-shot abilities (mental blast, snipe, etc) but anyone with an ounce of common sense must realize that there will always be system technicalities to exploit so long as they are not balancing SPECIFICALLY for pvp.

You mean some guilds might be better at pvp than others still? Do go on!

Discussion over. There's other places to talk about guild imbalance and combat changes, and it's pretty clear that this discussion is going to blow up shortly.
Additional posts related to guild or ability imbalance belong elsewhere and will be yanked.

There's nothing to address there. The game is not balanced for PVP or GvG. Never has been and probably never will be.
This tangent of the thread is over.

Your epic whine-fest aside, the "80th thief" has combats at celpeze level. Not everyone trains to bare minimum reqs, and if the Thief in question did he wouldn't have even drawn you in the game. Circle means almost nothing these days, sport.
