Eh, I haven't bothered anyone in this topic yet...

Any chance that something truly useful will come out of artistry, combat or otherwise (and by useful I mean producing something that isn't pure fluff)? Pure fluff may be something a lot of people are interested in, but why not put some items in the skill that people will want for the effect. It will give more people a reason to use the skill.

Ideas:
intimidation effects added to items
warpaint? (heavily suggested in enchanting)
calming/soothing effect (charisma +/- quality Vs Disc effect to "calm" advancing critters/players, reduce mental strain increasing exp drain rate)
light-producing effect (stud items with light-producing gems?)
Critter attraction (useful for grouping..causes critters to be more likely to attack a character wearing an "attractor", leaving ranged-based and long-range TM based characters and empaths freer of harm.)
Critter repulsion (opposite of above)
Hiding/Stalking/stealing/backstabbing bonus items (time and environment dependant? Black colored armor at night, cammo in forested areas and so on.)
Placement of enchantables (gems, glass work, jewelers metals)
Placement of mirror for blinding/unbalancing enemies during the day.
Critter disguises (pass through a group of critters unnoticed by causing them to think you are one of them.)
Decoys (fake people that attract critters to attack them, leaving the hunter at a distance.)
Hard-to-look-at patterns that cause dizziness
Odd patterns making the hunter appear further or closer than he/she really is, gaining positional advantage/evasion bonus
Impressive patterns that grant a bonus to haggling ability
Ability to paint/stitch words onto things (limited characters, inappropriate items being removed, of course with applicable punishment to the producer).
Ability to remove undesired paint from metal objects
Repairing items? (Seems like as good place for this skill as any. it allows a single repair skill for wood, bone, stone, leather and metal, instead of a separate system for each one, if player repairs are a thing of the future.)

I would assume that the glass bowing that some of us got to play with during the Merelew II festival would fall under this skill, and that some of the items sold in the merchant there would become makable using artistry, so that should include being able to make jugglies...
