Sigil Comprehension bonuses Sigil harvesting and usage. Much like we have arrange/skinning bonuses in the appropriate Carving and Tailoring Disciplines.

Founts are tools used during enchanting that control how the completed enchantment manages mana. Founts change the complexity (size) of the enchantment. The easier-to-use and longer-lasting enchantments will not "fit" on anything less than a material with high enchantability.

In this way, Artificing is like Blacksmithing. They'll be producing the lion's share of tools for the trade.

Foci start with Holy (it is the most difficult). Each type unlocks the crafting ability for Foci of that mana type. Combined Foci allow for multi-mana ritual foci. Weaponized Foci are TM Foci and other things we have in mind. Exotic Foci may refer to Sorcerous Foci someday.

Basic Artificing will produce a whole host of really trivial magic items. Glow stones, fireworks beads, elemental wands, fire starters, etc.

Advanced Artificing will produce more utility enchanted items.

Runestones and Wands are self explanatory I hope.

Enchanting Tools refers to Burins, Braziers and other items used in the process.

Exotic Artificing is a catch-all for future expansion.

Some artifacts will need periodic repair, so there are some techniques for that. Still debating how to handle this. Most artifacts will be temporary in some way or another. I'm guessing we'll have a Min/Max durability/uses/timelimit. Each repair lowers the max until the item breaks.

The last 3 techniques give bonuses to the crafting process.

Please let me know what you think!

You are a beast Kodius! Digging the list. Question if you can answer, will Artificing include cambrinth creation/refining? Just curious.

And as much as this rocks, don't burn out man! Gotta keep your health up!

sounds really neat.

question though. holy is a requirement for the others. Does your guild have any bearing with this, as necomancers can't touch holy stuff without severe consequences. :-)

Techniques are not required to craft. Knowing a technique does not mean you have to use it. Artificing is more influencing mana by the physical manipulation of objects. I'll have to discuss the ramifications of shaping objects to accept and interact with Holy Mana with Armifer. NMUs will be able to do it via "preparing" the item over a brazier... so it might be OK.

Any thoughts to how the arcana skill will/won't tie into creation/use of magic items?

Complete idiot question here:

I am planning to have Enchanting be my chosen Career. I hobby as a weaponsmith and blacksmith. If I want to make my top notch awesome swords into flaming swords of doom, what flavor of Enchanting should I be holding out for?

so this is all physical stuff/preprep?

harvesting sigils, focis, runes, wands, tools, etc - aside from maybe tools and maybe foci; are these all magically null and will need further enchanting from binding or invoking?

Artificing will generally be taking mundane items and making them magical. Foci are considered magical. Wands/Runes are magical. Basic/Advanced artifacts are magical. Feel free to suggest other things you'd like to see here.

I'm guessing the other two enchanting disciplines will change into Offensive Enchantments and Defensive Enchantments. Or maybe Weapon Enchanting and Armor Enchanting. Hard to say, because we are finding that a "balanced" system isn't necessarily what we came up with from Binding and Invoking.

If I might suggest swapping holy and life in the tiers? That will solve the problem for necros and you can still make it so they can't do holy stuff.

I'd rather see armor/weapon enchantment be one thing. Could we get a MU focused third option for making spellscrolls, putting spells into runes, binding cambrinth into objects, etc etc? Something that doesn't require foci, but does require knowledge of whatever spell thing you're doing. Maybe toss guild specific techniques into this third option for later development of say... combat familiar talismans, celestial jewelry/gweths, divine-centric diefic-personality based items, uh.. song..stuff?, and erm...healy-type things.

You get my point :p Artificing gets the generic items that do generic things that may coincidentally sorta replicate what a guild does and enchanting-related tools, but this yet-to-be-named third options gets "guild specific up in here" plus scrolls/spellrunes/etc.

Not really, because they'd still need holy foci to learn weaponized foci. It is kind of curious, evil has often hidden itself under the guise of good... often crafting, practicing and doing the very acts they are opposed to. All just so they can turn around and eviscerate it in the end :)

You can make a historical argument for it? Holy magic being the oldest of the three full-fledged magic traditions, so holy enchanting techniques could be expected to inform other enchanting traditions.

We were told it is part of stone carving. And as it is barbarian related thus NOT MAGIC, and is stone, it seems the right place for it.

And about Necromancers and Holy Foci.. This is crafting and has nothing to do with magic. It would seem a way for a Necro to hide from the world, producing Holy Foci as a cover.

Necromancers will probably be able to create Holy foci as well as any non-Cleric/Paladin, given that they are a step removed from the process by virtue of the tools they use. It's like a werewolf holding a chunk of silver with tongs.

Probably. I do not guarantee this will be the case if either the theory behind Artificing changes or I come up with something suitably amusing.

aha. so like the holy-blessing backsheath works to bless my weapons so I can fight undead stuff without actually touching the holy stuff :-) cool. Sounds really interesting to work with.

Although if you mess up on the crafting, it would be neat to see really armifer-like doommessages. :-)

Possibly. I can move my lamp without touching the lightbulb and burning myself. It's at least a plausible explanation.
