If imbue is going to be required for enchanting to work can we make it learnable though a tech slot instead of 3-5 spell slots (depending on which ap spells you choose), please?

Imbue is not required. You will be able to spend tech slots to use magical items to perform the imbueing process. However, it won't be quite as efficient.

Is there some other option I'm not seeing?
Also, out of curiosity, which might come first, trader magic or enchanting? Best guesses are great.

My understanding is that imbue is pretty much going to replace using a tool at certain steps.
So instead of using your arcane-powered gooblegobble to trace a sigil, you cast imbue. The power of the imbue determines the "quality" of the tool it emulates during that step.
Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.

Imbue doesn't replace scribing altogether, normally just in prepping the item for enchanting. I would imagine it will stay the same.

>>Right, but with the new enchanting up to 5 spell slots for something that is basically just a side option seems excessive.
IMO, it's a bit silly to count every prereq's slots as part of a spell's required slots.
Imbue is a 1 slot spell that, as mentioned, could be temporarily memorized as a scroll spell.

Where are you getting 5 spell slots from? Imbue will be a couple of slots max.
Using the equipment at the Enchanting Societies (thus locking you in like a forge) will be the easiest approach and require the fewest techniques to accomplish.

He's counting pre-req slot costs in that amount. (Which I agree is a poor way to account for slot costs in a couple of different ways.)

You can get Imbue for three spell slots or one scroll slot. In doing so you get would need to learn EASE or STRA plus EASE, STRA, LW or Seal Cambrinth. There are a few solid spells there that are worth at least one spell slot. If it takes five slots that is because you chose to learn Gauge Flow and Manifest Force. That is a good choice (those are some of the better spells on the list), but saying it cost you five slots when you get the benefit of those spells is a bit dishonest.

Maybe I'm just over thinking it.
I can understand needing spells (slots) to magic crafting but it feels like there should be a different way to get the spell needed.
On the other hand, just as an example imagine the out cry of telling people they have to give up roar, kri, or beseech slots for various other crafts.

Well I've said it a few times, but yes there will be rods of imbue you can use in place of the spell. There will also be a scrolls you can memorize, and stationary equipment in the crafting hall that can substitute for carrying around and using the less-efficient rods.
This is of course how NMUs will be capable of enchanting :P
