So, I was trying to make a survival belt and needed to rub it with the slickstone. Only problem was that Belten was in the room with me. No matter what combo of things I did, I just kept rubbing Belten. this was the only verb that was bothered by his presence.

I think this is not an issue with the Outfitting System itself, but instead a parser issue. It's the same reason why you almost never want to start the name of your character with "My," everyone's going to be rubbing you when they want to activate their gweth, for example.

I've seen many similar examples posted before, and rarely has a solution been able to be found. I hope I'm wrong; it can make for a really frustrating (and sometimes hilarious RP) experience.

A variety of extra verbs have been added to other crafting interactions to help sidestep this... rub is just particularly problematic (see the addition of 'scrape' to wire brushes for metal repair). Suggesstion: slide, push, or arrange?

My apologies for being dense, but how is this sidestepping? I thought the problem is not with the RUB verb but the name of the character having the characters "belt" in his name, no?

RUB is apparently a more complex verb that hasn't been able to work around having an offending character name in the room. Presumably because there's so many things you would conceivably rub another person for or with that separating other people out is not possible or worth the RoI. Other verbs are easier to work with like SCRAPE, since you never really have to scrape another person with anything. Presumably they can just skip checking people entirely in that case. Hence, utilizing another verb allows them to sidestep some of the issues that cannot be solved via RUB. I think MY and 'My' names will still cause issues with any verb, but the issue with things like BELT and 'Belt' names can usually be sidestepped which is what they did in his example with SCRAPE and wire brushes.

I'm sure you probably tried this already, but what about >rub MY belt with slickstone ?

This is how I usually get around annoying things like this.
