I was trying to temper a few blades and it was telling me that I didn't know how. I turned the smithing book to the page on weapon tempering and studied it. This didn't give an RT like studying honing, etc. When I put the blade on the forge the first time it gives me the warning about it possibly improving or damaging the weapon. When I try to put the blade on the forge the second time, it says I don't know how to temper. This was with blades made from plain steel.

Also, I'm not sure that honing is working. I turned the book to honing and studied it (got an RT with this). I then held the blade and a wire brush and started turning the grindstone. Once the grindstone was up to speed I used PUSH GRINDSTONE WITH <WEAPON> and it returned the messaging for polishing the blade instead of honing it.

The weapon had not been finished before trying the enhancments. I thought that polishing + oiling was the final step. So enhancements are done after this step?
