So, it's always bothered me that we have both this language system and some words actually translated into these fictional languages. It ends up creating the awkward situation of my character knowing what was said even though I don't at times, if someone should speak a language my character knows without actually using tha language system. So, that leads me to a suggestion.

Introduce the TRANSLATE verb. Basically it would allow common-to-<language your character knows> conversions and vice versa.

For instance,

TRANSLATE COMMON friend TO HAAKISH would tell you what the Haakish word for "friend" is.

TRANSLATE HAAKISH grek TO COMMON would tell you what the common word for the Haakish "grek" is.

Maybe there could also be a TRANSLATE HAAKISH LIST to list all the Haakish words that the system knows.

Anyway, just an idea.

Thanks,

Except they would have to then map out the entire languages and their conversions. I think their time could be better spent for something that is just mildly RPish, that would hardly be used IMO.

Most languages aren't fleshed out enough for this. And some (like Ilithic) actually encourage word construction, so you'll find words players have put together that you won't find in a dictionary.
