I agree that the current incarnation of RECALL isn't necessarily desirable...
However, I think that while we have the utility and it's fairly easy to implement, we should use it for what it's worth. If things change later on, all the better.

And to take the conversation one step further:
I would like to see RECALL actually require that you seek out the information before being able to recall it successfully.
For instance, a young Cleric wants to recall information on the Immortals. He heads to the Temple in the Crossings to seek out Tallis. She directs him to the temple librarian or scribe, who then sits you down with the book The Immortals. After reading the book, you unlock RECALL IMMORTAL.
As the Cleric's skills and stats grow, so does the amount of detail he can recall about the Immortals. They might also receive a bonus to recalling information about their confirmed deities.
The same would follow for Paladins and Immortals, and Rangers with RECALL HERB, etc. Lore Primary guilds would have expanded options available to them (outside their guild focus) and bonuses to recalling more details.
I also see much more information being available with the new crafting systems. Forgers might have access to information on weapon or armor templates, Alchemists could recall herb and other substance information. Some things would require a little more research/more involved task to complete and would scale a little higher in terms of skill level.
I don't think RECALL should be a training tool, and I don't see this sort of information scaling to 2000 ranks or even remotely close. This is more of a beginning/intermediate source of knowledge that gets characters traveling and exploring the world to gain information.
That's how I'd like to see it!

If it had been intended as a training tool, I would have made it give enough experience to actually be a training tool. Right now it's just a token award, and that's probably not going to change.
Yes, making people have to search out the information would be very cool, but that would also require a fairly large amount of extra work, as well as a way to track what people know, which we don't have at the moment. This is why most recalls are guild-only -- the assumption is that the Cleric Guild teaches clerics about the Immortals, for example. It's kind of hard to believe they wouldn't.

I'm glad you just said that, I thought it was also supposed to be a training tool and I was just doing something horribly wrong. I mean it teaches, but not much. But I'm fine with that. I love the utility of it, and I find it immensely useful when in social situations trying to help other people learn with accurate, consolidated information, and when writing up trivia contests.
One request, Dart. Would it be possible to add the list option to recalls besides Holiday? I'd really like to see Recall Famous List, instead of having to go to Elanthipedia to find the list. Unless this is really labor intensive, in which case I'd rather see you guys continue working on some of these other great things that have been cranking out.

In regards to RECALL being a training tool, I was responding to the thread from the General Discussions boards.
But in any event, I realize that my suggestion would take a lot of extra work. I just thought it would be cool to have something a little more adventurous do to with a Lore bent.
Thanks Dart

Heh, if RECALL wasn't meant to be a training tool, then Ratha sure was a nice treat for us ;)

I know plenty of Clerics who didn't seem to have been listening during those classes. =P

Recall History was intended as a Bard-specific training tool. I was referring to all the "anywhere" recalls that were added later.

Or can remember. I listened; I just use only about 10 of them on a regular basis. When someone asks me what the symbol is for one of the others, I pray to my Dart shrine for thanks.

Which is fine. If I'm having trouble with an Immortal, I used to buzz the website real fast. I still do that, since my Cleric doesn't come out of hermitage much. But my issue was with the Clerics who can't even be bothered to use the tool Dart has thoughtfully provided. They just sit there and spout off blatant lies about the Immortals, leaving it to the rest of us non-zealots to be forced to pretend they have a clue simply because they're guilded and we're not.

I've always played a religious character myself, and have no problem remembering a lot of details about many of the Immortals..but even I was stunned when just last week we were having a discussion in front of the MM guild about recent visions and a fairly prominent cleric, declared with some authority that Urrem'tier was the dark aspect of Eylhaar. twitch
Part of me was hoping that perhaps this character worshipped Eylhaar and had their own interpretation of how those 3 Immortals related to one another, but alas...just ignorance.
Does the Cleric guild leader give a speech about the recall immortal ability, or is it just something that they gain at a particular skill level?

And it would be awesome if people knew the rules well enough to break them, but--and here's where my cynicism plays in, the inability to have faith in DR players--I don't really believe they do. We have so much trouble with the baseline that it's very difficult to roleplay someone who actually does break the mold.
O, Class-based Systems, how I hate your guts.
>>Does the Cleric guild leader give a speech about the recall immortal ability, or is it just something that they gain at a particular skill level?
AFAIK, there's no speech. But I may be misremembering the Bard requirement for the Cleric requirement. Or they're the same.
