I really like the idea above of overhearing other classes. Maybe you can only overhear a class that is in your primary or secondary skillsets?
I think this may have a nice side effect, in that it will give people more of a reason to be around one another or gather in groups.

Let me reiterate that I really like this idea. However,
I'd like to point out that this means a teacher cannot prevent someone from gaining exp from their class.
On the other hand, I don't really empathize with the teacher, in this situation; I'd point out that the eavesdropper is being a hanger-on, and let it stroke your ego.
