How does the number of students affect a class nowadays? From my perspective as a teacher, I seem to get easily locked in teaching with even one student, so I can't tell if there is any difference. What about the students? Do they learn better with one-on-one teaching or smaller class sizes? Is there some incentive to closing your class, or is that solely a roleplaying decision? Thanks for any help.

It doesn't really.
You learn better with more students, but it's quite possible to learn with only one if you have either low skills or a very good student or enough time.
