If crossbow and bolt making isn't part of tinkering, sorry for the misplaced post. I was thinking of ways to expand on crossbows in 3.0 and I was thinking that it would be really cool if we could make crossbows and bolts that were specifically designed to deliver AOE damage. I don't know exactly how the AOE calculation would work, or how you'd have to balance loadtime, etc, but it would be really cool to fire off an explosive bolt with a fireball-like effect. Or some kind of room poisoning cloud.

Xbows and Bolts will be part of the Tinkering profession. Unless I've missed a recent post from a GM stating otherwise.

now..just speculation, but fireball/poison cloud type effects might could be possible in conjunction with the Enchanting system, or with the Alchemy system.

These are things that Kodius suggested would be part of the whole fletching of arrows, so either became a stick archer, or hope that because bolts and arrows are very similar in nature that what you can add to one, will be able to add to another.

I'd be sincerely surprised to see AoE effects or attacks make it into weapons-crafting (whatever you want to call it), just because they seem to be extremely high skill/level attacks right now. Though I suppose it would be just as valid to say they'll require 1k ranks to make, be an auction only template, and likely run several k's worth of coin to buy. The end is the same, I doubt they'll become regular hunting items.

I only speculate that it might be possible, not that it will be possible or that it will become a regular feature in hunting.

That makes sense to me, and that's kind of why I figured a very long loadtime etc was in order, plus specialized equipment in the crossbow AND bolt. Good to hear it's a planned part of fletching as a whole, I certainly hope crossbows will see part of that. But I was thinking more "grenade launcher" than arrowhead with a small boom. I was thinking that the whole attack itself could require a special crossbow, suited only to that kind of attack, thus adding another drawback. I like the idea of charging in with at least one big boom before switching out to other weapons. Maybe a mix of tinkering enchanting and alchemy etc.

I like the grenade launcher approach. But I also like bombs in general in games which allow me to play the mad bomber type (I mean really, who doesn't want to strap grenades to an arrow and send it off to nirvana?).
