Someone in the Thief folder was just asking: will our old lockpicks be converted when the new lockpick carving techniques go live? Or will they all be junk?

I was considering carving up a bunch before the new system takes over...

Could always just make a bunch for the sake of nostalgia.

New lockpicks aren't in 3.0 yet. So you're fine keeping what you have for now.

When we rewrite lockpicks, you can expect old ones to work in the new system. However, they'll likely not be of "mastercrafted" quality...

Umm why?

Aren't lockpicks still going to just be used and broken, then discarded in the new system as well?

The new lockpicks will do a bunch more things. Arbitrarily deciding which of these things old lockpicks do just adds complexity for no good reason. Besides, its what we've done with every lore rewrite. New shields better than old, new weapons better than old, new armor better than old, new containers larger than old, etc.
