While I am not yet up to doing events with the Orders, I thought I would start planning and preparing. One thing I noticed is that often people want food and drinks supplied. Depending on the Order, I am guessing that Order-hosted events would probably like something that reflects their Order. That led me to thinking how convenient it would be to be able to offer Orders some menus or even a list of foods from which to select.

So! How about we do some menu brainstorming. If you were hosting an event, what sort of food and drink would you like to see served? Keep in mind that we are of medieval flavors so no Harvey Wallbangers or Dorritos.

I was given a lovely book of medieval recipes by a fellow GM and it has wonderful recipes of things such as mock hard-boiled eggs made of colored almond paste dripped into blown shells or fig and raisin cream.

Do some digging and let's start a thread about what foods would titivate your tastebuds! If everyone pitches in, we could probably come up with some new and interesting things to serve our guests.

Because I am a cautious Kate, I would like to say that my asking this is not a guarantee that I will make all items. However, I do think it would make life easier down the track if I was before hand with some of these small things.

P.s. Aren't you glad there was no such thing as a booze bus in medieval times?

Just stuff off the top of my head, we've always enjoyed snacky type foods to be included at our events and lots of drinks. Here's a starting list of things I know we've enjoyed.

popcorn
spice cake
cookies
fruits [cherries, kiwi, peaches]
turkey legs
bite-sized cheese tidbits
deep fried bear lard [think pork rinds]
chicken wings

whiskey
red tequila
dragonshield schnapps
fruit punch

As my brain kicks in I plan to post another list.

I think at one point each order had a signature drink like the Dragonshield Schnapps of ours, but off the top of my head, I can't remember the others since ours seems to be the only one that stuck around since most of us as an order loved it.

The red mule tequila is a must-have at all our functions. ::nods emphatically::

Aside from the drinks and the snacks (which is what we typically use), we also did need banquet type stuff for I think one of the bigger parties where we rented out the Haven Trader's Guild banquet hall, which I think is where the spice cake came from. I can't hazard to guess what would make a good menu for that since my personal tastes lean towards chocolate and lots of it.

Ugh, this is probably no help. >.<

Good start. I did not know that each Order had a signature drink. Could each Order please post their signature drink.

Also, let me make it easier for you. You don't have to worry about menus. Just tell me what food you enjoy and I will turn it into something medieval.

It's easy! For example I love lemon-frosted cupcakes topped with a single cachou, buttery shortbread crammed with cranberry and macadamia nuts and cups of spiced tea. Other things I like are baby red peppers filled with creamy cheese and roasted shrimp smothered in a shallot and lemon sauce.

Let your taste buds do the talking!

I love jambilya and oysters and grilled fish, cheese of all kinds, light toasty crackers, flat bread, pasta pasta pasta, fruits and raw veggies.

And as promised, here's the table from our novice auctions with the spice cake.

On the silverwood bar you see a large spice cake baked into the shape of a shield and iced with the image of a dragon, some spicy chicken wings, a platter of bite-sized cheese tidbits, a bag of buttered popcorn, a cask of Dark Gwenalion Ale, some bottles of fizzy fruit punch, a decanter of Dragonshield Schnapps and some frosted-glass bottles of Dark Mule red tequila.
