Cause if it's like last year, we all know he's going to make those of us waiting for tomorrow want to see Lord of the Rings, Twin Towers all that much more.
I'm really hoping it's better than the first, because I enjoyed the last two books the most out of the series.

You will not be disappointed with the Two Towers, I went to the first showing at midnight last night, and it was worth every minute of lost sleep <g> An incredible movie, there are so many wonderful things about it, I'm having a hard time not spilling anything to people here at work!
I found it better than the first movie, much darker and combat oriented, while still very much a story about several groups of people.

I saw it last night, I think it's not nearly as good as the first one. They changed like half the movie from what happens in the book. And not just minor things, there are some really major changes which are really stupid if you ask me. Of course it's still the year's best movie by far though :)

I'm going to see the movie on saturday... hopefully the theatre wont be quite as crowded then. I don't know what is, but I cant stand crowded theatres, so I chose to go a couple days after the first massive rush. Never read the books... but I loved the first movie.
Goes on my list of favorite movies of all time, and some of the other included ones are star wars, saving private ryan, black hawk down.

I just got back....
Wow....amazing. Simply amazing.
Sure, there were a few things that were changed a bit, but it was simply staggering. I am already waiting on the DVDs to come out so I can put them on my Amazon Wish list. Of course, I'll end up buying them off my own list, but still...::snicker::
I was brought to tears multiple times...
I'm already planning to go again. I would have sat through another 3 1/4 hours and see it again (after a very much needed bathroom break) except it was already sold out for the rest of the day. :(

I hope Apu's critique is a little critical. I have loved the books since a child and to have them change everything... It was the "story" that made the trilogy a classic, not cool special effects. If I wanted to see garbage with great effects I would have went to Star Wars Episode 2. Of course no offence meant to all you Jar Jar fans.

He's exagerrating. There's no way to bring the book verbatim to the movies; Jackson moved some lines around and used some of the stuff from the appendices of the trilogy and brought that into the main light, but the story is still there. The changes are to bring the essence of the book into the movie, while still making it watchable.
He's a Lord of the Rings fan too.

I went to the midnight showing here (central time zone)... Best part.. they let us in free.
And for one.. I think the movie was great. Ever seen a movie where no one makes a sound? No talking, no phones, no noise at all from the audience? That was what happened last night. The only sounds was either laughter, Applause, and yes even cheers.
I'm already makin plans to reserve my copy of the DVD when the lists come out.

p.s. "just dont tell the elf"... Wont spoil it for the ones who havent seen it.. but those who have.. that line had me rollin

>>The changes are to bring the essence of the book into the movie, while still making it watchable.<<
Exactly, the two storylines that are shortend, are Frodo and Sam, and Merry and Pippin, but then much of its fairly slow action and I suspect they had to be shortened up to keep the moving flowing at a steady pace and not just stop in endless scenes of hobbits traveling or carrying on long long conversations with ents.
From watching the director/writer track of the extended FOTR I am certain that the changes where for time. As it is the movie runs about 3 hours, a really really great 3 hours, but it runs three hours. Also if you feel a bit let down on this one remember it is the middle of the trilogy not the end nor really a stand alone movie.
While I half wish that they had included Ciruth Ungol in this movie, I suspect that again endless shots of Frodo and Sam crossing Moria would make for really bad movie time, so that whole plot gets moved to the return of the king. I also suspect it was the moving of that to the next movie that prompted the changes in Faramir's interactions. Jackson probably wanted to extend the introduction and time with Faramir in this movie.

One of the other reasons I dont normally go to the theatres. People dont keep their mouths shut. I like watching in silence in my dvd player at home... makes the experience that much better :)

Let's not forget that last time they released the theater version of the DVD first, then after those had been bought up released the full version with the additional footage six months later. Perhaps you would be better off waiting on that DVD purchase a few months. If you can. ;)
