I don't understand why they changed how the Ents got involved.
I don't understand why they changed the way Faramir acted toward Frodo and Sam.
I don't understand why they changed how Helm's Deep was defended.
I haven't enjoyed the movies as much as my wife has, who has never read anything by Tolkien, so even though I am disappointed in the movies (primarily, I don't get the emotional effect I get from the powerful writing of Tolkien), I think it is good to know those who never knew or understood the Middle Earth interest are finally getting it. That is a good thing.
My wife actually asks me questions now. Aragorn is 90 years old? What is a Numenor? Sauron is a Vala? What is a Vala? hehe Finally, all this useless knowledge is impressing a female!

>>Sauron is a Vala?
>Almost positive that Sauron was a Maia. Melkor, his master, was a Vala.
You'd be right, there. Sauran was the most powerful of the evil Maiar, Melkor's foremost servant, and was commander of the fortress Angband. During the First Age, that is.

G'day,
I think (hope?) in some cases at least, the reason for the changes will be made apparent with the final installment. I say hope cause I don't understand the reason for some of them either <g>.
I know that once they started with the changes in this part I was going "Now wait a minute, if Faramir is acting this way, how the heck are Frodo and Sam gonna get back on their way to Mordor?" and the like. Which definitely hooked my attention more, even though I "knew" where the story had to get to eventually.
