So, arriving in Germany, first impression was... this is going to be a long 3 years. Cold, overcast, always snowing, and stationed in the middle of nowhere up in the mountains. Joy :p But, after exploring the local towns a bit, it's actually a really cool community and I'm loving it. Anyone else stationed up here?

Beerhouses! Woo Woo! If you're there for three years you'll get a few chances to go to Octoberfest. Have fun

Loved Germany, lived there just short of ten years and miss it to this day. Loved the atmosphere, the buildings, the sense of history, the people etc. Almost went native loved it so much. Get out and away from the usual military hang outs, that's what I and a few friends did. We also managed to hit most of the castles, churches, musuems etc. Not sure where your at but travel by train is a breeze in europe, though for eight of the near ten years I had a motorcyle and a jeep to travel about in. I still even then used the train often.

p.s: Of course things could have changed a lot since the wall came down. I left europe in September of 1992. Different world probably now a days. One thing I'd have liked to have seen was more of eastern europe was much harder back then during the cold war.
