Why haven't I seen a DR/GSIV/SIMU advertisement? on 12/06/2012 01:36 AM CST

I don't know how much money SIMU makes... maybe they cannot afford an advertisement?

I was thinking about a page or half a page in the PC Gamer magazine.

I would compare the game to a chatroom/medieval fantasy book hybrid that is so addictive people have been playing it 10 years straight. Each room is like a chatroom in a sense, and the room descripting/items/everything is relevant to a medieval fantasy. Some rooms have shops where you can buy items, and there are thousands of items. Some rooms have monsters/critters that you can kill. Critters drop coins, gems, treasure boxes, and you can even skin a lot of them and sell their pelt/fangs/claws/whatever for money too.

I would include that there is the chance for PvP. I think a lot of people would be interested in thievery and pickpocketing, so I would include that.

Point out they can get a 1 month free trial.

I question if the Simu system is capable of handeling the ammount of people that would sign in and give it a shot.
One of the big things is making sure people can transition into the game. I think more groups and events engineered to helping people make friends in the game and they can share what they are learning and how to interact from other players starting out.

I guess one other thing I would do in the magazine is point out all the guides and player sites that exist and make a short list for them. Again, the big deal is going to be retention so I think there are extra things that can be done to maximize the initial experience that will propell them into a long term experience.

I understand it would be pretty expensive to advertise.. but I think even just one advertisement in PC Gamer would do a lot. Maybe SIMU could do something that would result in PC Gamer writing an article about them.

What does everyone else think?

Honestly? I suspect it would cost more than it would generate.

I love DR, but it's just about as much of a niche product as you can get.

I know someone took it upon themselves to pay for some Facebook advertising out of their own pocket. I don't think Simu shared the numbers but it led to a few accounts getting created. There is probably some low cost advertising out there that could be effective if targeted correctly.
