G'day,

As mentioned by GM Rigby in the Game Master announcements folder of the Talk to Simu board (or whatever its called now <g>), there is a new gem outpost open in Throne City.

Traders who are also citizens of Therengia are encouraged to stop by and talk to the woman who runs the shop about possible business dealings.

This brings up a question (or a few) that I had:

What made you decide to include citizenship into Traders dealing with these gem outposts?

I'm curious because merchants don't necessiarly need to be of a certain area to do business in another (and usually don't because they travel).

What does claiming citizenship to a province prove (to the gem outpost perveyor)?

And how does it that view by the perveyor change when looking at non-citizen Traders?

I'd like to hear what kind of take you have with Trader citizenship and gem outpost financing.

Personally, I believe that a Trader of Financer status should be able to finance anything they wanted, anywhere. If they have the means, they should have the opportunity (means=money and circle requirement) regardless of citizenship affiliation.

I believe a better means would probably be to set it up as a Trader sect, or area of specialty. I will be posting my thoughts on this suggestion in the Traders' Folders.

G'day,

I replied to this on the Trader boards, but I repeat briefly here for folks who don't necessarily read the Trader boards.

From an IC perspective: The provincial authorities want to keep as much profit/money as they can within the province. By limiting some opprotunities to citizens, they have have better chance of keeping these within their borders. (There are ample examples of this historically. Many cities in England had laws that prohibited foreign merchants from taking their profites directly out of the city, but required that these be turned into local goods first.) Also, there is the consideration of who the actual shop owner wants to do business with. In these particular cases, they would rather deal with citizens rather than foreigners.

From and OOC perspective: I want to give more reasons for folks to be citizens and I want to make it impossible for one player to run around and finance all the available outposts.
