Maybe traders could use mech lore to convert the caravan to float before entering a deep enough body of water and then convert it back on the other side.

Let's see how quickly they adjust their scripts.

If I get to skip the Crossing-Leth ferry, it'll take less than 2 minutes. That will make me a happy caravan chaser.
