Armadillo Area Update on 12/14/2009 09:28 PM CST

Greetings,

I've made a few changes to the armadillo area that should keep them from wandering onto their brothers turf. Juvies will stick with juvies, elders with elders and so on. This should make hunting in that area more fun!

You may notice three assorted rooms that they no longer stick around in. This is intended and not a bug. Consider it a necessary determent to keep them seperated.

I want to thank the dillo hunters in TF who kept an eye on these changes for the past few days for me!

Indeed. I logged back into TF after a long weekend away to find all super celp rooms occupied. I went to juvies and didn't see a single elder. I haven't set up my script for 24/7 yet, but it the fix you installed looks very promising. Thank you!

I'm glad to hear the fix is holding! Due to the way the area is built, I had to use a creative trick we have up our sleeves and prayed it kept them corraled. I debated several ways to go about it but this was the less invasive and that's always a good thing!

Let me know if any escape!

I just took out a few elders that attempted to kill me in [Hidisharon Desert, Sandy Trail], four rooms from the ditch. Just a heads up in case this isn't somewhere they're meant to spawn/wander to.

I have yet to see any elder's going into a lower area, but I have seen juvies wander into adults. Not sure if that is intended but I thought I'd make mention of it.

If I had to guess I'd say it's the new LURE ability's spawn-increasing effect... that's the only thing that's changed on my end since the last time I was here. I've never seen a single adult or elder in the ditch before now, but last night I came across four or five elders over the course of several hours. I was using my warhorn every 20 minutes.

I checked into this and it's due to the warhorns. I've written the mastermind behind them to see if anything can be done.

I see no need for that, let warhorns work as they do! If you have a problem talk to the Barbarian using them (or yourself if not) and have them use them in a room not connected to elders or adults respectively.

Just means reducing the effectiveness of a cool item, warhorns. Not a bug in the armidillo area, it's a feature of warhorns!

What exactly about the fairly recent changes to keep the different varieties of dillos separate leads you to believe that allowing them to mix again is a feature?

They shouldn't mix. It makes juvies unhuntable and will further exacerbate the super celp crowding issue.

Some people who are lower end on super celps may go to juvies if celps are filled. If an elder or two got loose on them, they'd be in trouble.

I'm able to kill elders, but only with my crossbow while dancing eagle and waiting for full aim, and even then most shots miss or land pathetic hits. It completely negates the usefulness of the warhorn in the area because dealing with the elders is worse than dealing with a lull in the spawn.

If this had started happening a month ago, or further back when I first started hunting juvies, it would have all been over with the initial ambush... and if you're already at the engagement cap they'll happily wander off to bother the other hunters in the area, who have no way of knowing a horn was used.

Sorry for the double post, but having them Elders mix into Juvies is TOTALLY at the control of a hunter. A BARBARIAN hunter at that. Don't blow your warhorn and they will not mix. Done Deal! Just use them wisely and with respect for your fellow hunters. How about Gwething before you blow? If you are awake, there should be no issue of responding to NOT gwithing back to stop, or going an learn down for 5 minutes or so (until the effect wears off).

Hey, another thought. Get your trader friend to stand outside the younger area if you see an Elder Armadillo in there, have him run in and blow HIS horn to chase them away! There, an in game solution that builds group hunting and guild unity!

I'm pretty sure that only Bards can use the repel exhale just as Barbs are the only ones who can use lure.

If someone else chooses to use one, you really don't have any control over it. Also, just because you can kill elder armadillos doesn't mean other people can.

>Just use them wisely and with respect for your fellow hunters. How about Gwething before you blow? If you are awake, there should be no issue of responding to NOT gwithing back to stop, or going an learn down for 5 minutes or so (until the effect wears off).

I don't think it's an issue of being afk or not.

>Hey, another thought. Get your trader friend to stand outside the younger area if you see an Elder Armadillo in there, have him run in and blow HIS horn to chase them away! There, an in game solution that builds group hunting and guild unity!

Aside from the fact that traders can't use warhorns anyway, you shouldn't need another character to deal with what is clearly an unintended side-effect of a brand new game mechanic.

In general, I get the sense that you don't really consider other people's issues if you don't experience them yourself.

OK, I realized it is bard not trader, but I did not want to tripple post.

There is NO usefullness in mixing Elders and Juvies. NONE, I totally agree.

Saying that, their mixing is under the control of the Barbarian blowing their warhorn. Any issues with Elders coming into Juvies can be resolved by dealing with the incosiderate SOB that is causing the issue. NOW we KNOW blowing a warhorn can call elders into Juvies. Treat it as a FEATURE. DEAL WITH THE PERSON CAUSING THE ISSUE. Seems like a chance for some good RP!Deal with it in game.

Exactly, we know it has to be a bug because Alvy(I think) just spent a lot of effort blocking Elders from wandering into Juvies. I don't know why you think a bug should become a feature?
