Hi,
Is the spawn in caracals deliberately designed to cause conflict? Is it not possible for every tree to be considered a separate hunting ground?
I died up an oak tree because I got four on me at once. I assumed because someone else had left the area. Not complaining - just thought I might be able to kill my third before the fourth came. Turns out I can't.
Then, After getting my spirit back, I went up a cypress, engaged three to get my defenses up, only to get hounded out a couple of minutes later by someone who stood around until his spawns turned up and engaged me because he wanted the room. Lesson learnt already, I can't handle four, and I had to oblige. I went a couple of rooms east and got nothing except the occasional straggler while he maintained three or four in his room.
Basically, are there only two caracal spawn areas (not including the ones with the lun'shele)? Seems like the danger from caracals is the hunters who want to monopolise the easy ranks they provide, not the critters themselves.

Actually now I have a bit more time and am the only person in the area, I'm wondering if the spawns in some of the trees are broken if they really are separate?
Trees that appear to gen:
The silvery cypress
The twin oak
The vine covered cypress
Trees that don't appear to gen:
The young cypress (even though the room description says caracals are there!)
The massive cypress
The stunted elm
The mossy cypress
A big willow tree
So, casting the twin oak aside for the moment as it gens too highly, that only leaves the two cypresses, which appear to be designed so that the room in the middle gets all the cats and the ones by the side get the rest. Now, if there are two people in the tree, and the one in the middle engages four, that leaves only one caracal for all the other rooms put together. So really, the only viable areas for me to hunt in are basically unshareable (not seen more than one other person in a tree, I am about when most are asleep).
So, to sum, if the young cypress is a viable place to hunt does that mean there is a bug and the gen has been switched off in these other trees?
I'm usually around when the place is empty so not usually a problem for me, but I'm truly curious to see if this area is behaving as expected.

i find it difficult to handle the scroll, not necessarily the critters, when more than a scrtain amount of people are in a hunting room. that's one of the main reasons i prefer plat these days, there's fewer people around so it doesn't get so crazy.
back in the day there were group hunts in the snowbeast lair, but somehow it wasn't as hard to see as it is now. Never did care for invasions, can't see what i'm doing or typing.
The undead hordes would like to take this moment to remind you that they are quite happy to eat your brains so that you may test new depart. Please consider it.Hugs and kisses, Team Necro.

When I was in caracals I strongly suspected that the tree spawns were all connected.
Sometimes I could sit in a tree for 20-30 minutes with no gen, and sometimes purported "two per" trees would gen three, etc.
It definitely did not seem as simple as "x per tree," as it is commonly held to be.

Why even bother with caracals? There is plenty of stuff to hunt on the mainland.

Because caracals are THE single best critter for training from 200 to 350 ranks... unless you're a box popper.
