Im kind of curious, a few years ago the sever weather program introduced the Sandstorm. Outside of the one Sandstorm that was tested in game, I know of no other instance where the sandstorm has been used. So my question is this...
Is it planned for things like sandstorms to be put into action? Things like that dont HAVE to be for special events. IRL while a sandstorm is kinda rare, they arent unheard of. What Im getting at is every once in awhile why not go off on a tangent just to mix things up for Velaka and toss out a sandstorm. More than once in a blue moon that is.

There's a blue moon up quite awhile :-P
Muspar'i does have sandstorms from time to time. Most of them seem to exist alongside an event, whether PC or GM driven, but they do exist. For instance, when Hekipe opened her locksmith shop and Gaktrhn opened the hospital, that day there was a sandstorm which damaged both buildings severely and only after the help of the Trader's Guild and some manual labor were the buildings restored.
I also remember a few other occasions where sandstorms took place, but I don't remember specifics. I remember getting blown away, knocked down, abrasions, etc. It was pretty cool. I wish that items designed to help in those situations (goggles, a uaro's'sugi to protect the face) actually did help. I really like the extreme weather system otherwise. Like with blizzards, the Bard enchante Caress of the Sun prevents the minor abrasions and some of the more severe side effects, which is definitely neat.

Thanks for the info Terra. I had talked to only one other person about the Sandstorms before I posted and they only knew of the one and I made an assumption. Well I should have known better than to assume.

I do certainly agree that more frequent infrequent sandstorms would be nice. Right now though, our focus is on making Velaka more appealing, and severe weather really has no practical upside. And besides, the only real gathering place in Velaka is Muspar'i currently, which is pretty well equipped to deal with sandstorms. I'll be more interested in harassing you all when there are one or two other gathering spots, which may be less well suited for severe weather.

it might be sort of neat, being as s'kra are the only ones "harassed" by the m'riss ghosts, that in muspar'i it would be the opposite - i.e. the severe weather sandstorm would give all the smoothskins a mild skin rash, and the s'kra, having scales, would be immune. :-)

Having actually been through a handful of sandstorms in the real world, I can attest that it will cut through glass as surely as it will cut through flesh. Typically, the best way to protect yourself is to wear layers and voluminous clothing.
They should be fairly hazardous to everyone but less so depending on how many layers of clothing they're wearing. Which isn't really feasible right now.
