I think that the blood worms should either be removed from the crocs area or crocs themselves be uptweaked. I hardly see anyone hunting there anymore just because of the blood worms, seems like its just a place for empaths now. Crocs are great for lower circles, many of those people don't have nearly enough FA to deal with blood worms, thus making it practically unusable to them. When i was younger the marsh was one of the most used hunting spots around crossing, that is definitly not the case anymore.

Crocs aren't as great for lower circles as they used to be. They've been uptweaked since you were young. I believe I'd have difficulties with them with 70's in combats.

Crocs are around 70 ranks to survive one on one. They still teach me a little at over 120 ranks. And if I can hunt there with relative safety as a cleric (tert survival), then other guilds shouldn't have a problem at all. It's not that folks don't have the requisite ranks to successfully tend the worms, for the most part they are paranoid, misinformed, or find the worms too inconvenient. And I take offense at "seems like its just a place for empaths now." What's wrong with an area beind designed primarily for empaths? You already have areas designed to give an advantage to rangers/thieves (needing modest amount of climbing/perception to enter the area or to see the critters), clerics (non-corporeal undead, other guilds needing to get weapons blessed by a cleric), and moon mages (shadow creatures below the moon mage guild). It's about time empaths had an area that catered to their strengths.

I always thought it took at least 100 ranks to tend a blood worm, thats almost as much as i have and i'm far above crocs right now, I don't know how people survive in there or get any actual hunting done without having to call for healing every 5 minutes. I didn't mean to offend you by saying an area just for empaths, i have no problem with empaths going to hunting grounds but for such a great critter area to be used only by empaths is a waste.

I learned many ranks of weapons and defense in my day. I believe I went from goblins to crocodiles and then things were changed. This use to be a very very popular hunting area because crocs taught so well.

The demand is a creature that will teach well and offer other survival skills in the area. Such as climbing or swimming, escaping. If these needs are supplied then you have a popular hunting area.

Gorgoyles in Shard use to be very popular years ago. I believe this was right around the gorbesh war time. I had a bard then and remember thinking they were vicious creatures. heh..

Rock Guardians were also another popular hunting area. I believe the changes made to combats in the way which we learn, coupled by newer hunting areas that had creatures that taught better with less risk and easy access killed these old time favorite hunting areas.

Think I should chime in here. I was in crocs the other day and was tending bloodworms fairly consistently with 50 FA. Crocs themselves weren't too dangerous for me, but my defenses are around 100, and I was learning weapons at 105 better than I do in lots of other places. I'm a dwarf, and have high stamina, and maybe that's why bloodworms didn't seem so bad, but Just to set the record straight, I was doing fine tending them off at 50.

I had the same results as Kyahul. 50 FA/Skinning and I could tend with relative ease. By the time I got 60 FA I could tend 'em off 90% of the time on the first try. Considering crocs teach to 120+, I'd be surprised if any serious hunter didn't have the required FA by the time they hit 90 in defenses.

So include an empath in your hunting party! I really don't see this as a 'bad thing'.

When my barb hunted Crocs, I'd go to Haven and find an Empath and ask them to be my personal healer for the duration of my hunt. They took care of the worms, and I gave them the skins. The empaths that came with me were always very pleased with the arrangement.

My cleric has just over 70 in FA and has had little problems tending them off. Things that help tending:
1) Get out of the water
2) Knife in hand
3) Wait for them to be engorged

Even without doing all 3 I have had little difficulty with my cleric.
