A while back there was a lengthy discussion about learning caps. Mostly agruments and complants that targeted was too difficult to learn after the magic changes or about weapon caps. But after thinking about this for a while I think I have something. Most people that were complaining used to hunt gargs. Gargs were kinda the perfect critter for a long while, they tought armor, weapons and other combat skills very well, they were skinnable, they dropped boxes, and they were not undead so you can cast spells on them. The next step up for a creature that has all those qualities is Mages in Shard. That is a huge jump. Right now to learn target, skinning, disarm, and weapons I have no choice but to hunt in two different locations. The problem isn't with gargs and weapon caps, it is with critter selection.
How about a skinnable, box dropping, magic vulnerable critter between the level of Gargs and Mages. Put it anywhere, we will come.

I currently jump between Fens and Marauders, I hunt in Fens for armor, weapons, and targeted but If I kill 20 trolls I am lucky to get maybe 2 boxes, this isn't enough to get me learning in disarm. And skinning pecs is a joke, I've never seen past pondering with 130 ranks in skinning, gargs were still mindlocking me, heck I could barely get a hide from them. I only hunt marauders for boxes and to learn lower weapons. Gargs are still the perfect critter, I am just sad I out grew them. I will keep working towards the day I can hunt mages. (or maybe super gargs if the GM's a have kind spot in there heart). It would be a great draw to put something in that range in TC or maybe in P5, it would draw alot of people to an area. Heck I would climb a mountain, swim a lake and pay an entrance fee to hunt a critter like that. I am impressed by the number of boxes that marauders drop, if Fen trolls would learn to carry as many boxes that would be a temp fix until something more permant came along.

I have tried Leucros/vipers and they teach combat skills, magics and skinning well, but there is a void with boxes. My goal is to hunt mages and I would like to be able to open my own boxes once I get there so boxes are important to me to practice. Ogres don't teach more for combat skills past 150 so thats not really an option. I got spoiled in Gargs.
