Greetings,

As I was busy revamping another hunting area I got to wondering, what are the local swimming and climbing training gaps?

I could spend time searching them out but since you all probably know them already I decided to save time and ask.

So what gaps in swimming and climbing training do we have?

As far as swimming, there are none. I can (and have) taken a character from 20 ranks in swimming (learned from classes very quickly) to over 500 ranks all within the confines of Therengia. I started at the lake shore by the bridge at Langenfirth, moved to the brook west of the bin from 90 to 230, and from there I used the Jantspyre in Rossman's to over 500 and it's still teaching.

As far as climbing, I don't have a clue. The trees west of the bin will work to a little over 200, and after that, I have no idea.

There really doesn't seem to be any gaps, if you know the area well. We could always do with some more ways to train escaping, though that's going away in the combine isn't it?

Where in Therengia, can one learn climbing over 300 ranks, at a reasonable clip?

I dont care much about swimming and climbing but this certainly caught my eye:

Any chance you might want to expand on what you are up to? Some nice juicy critter that teaches over 800 to replace some unused hunting spot?

While I doubt it, a guy can dream.

Agreed. Hopefully one day the higher end critters will populate the mainland!

Swimming I don't really bother with a whole lot these days. It is still easy to learn around Theren though. Climbing is a pain in the butt. I have to run all the way past the blockade and train on the branch to undergondola. This is at 400+ ranks and has been like this for quite a few ranks now.

Try the mine near Reavers on the NTR, Mujaki. I'm still locking there in a reasonable amount of time at 514 ranks. Once you go down the shaft there's a ledge you climb onto and then there's a ladder, handhold and niche that you can use. If you need help finding it you can IM me at Mithyldr.

Swimming is great in Therengia as a whole. Many places to learn. If any gap exists, it would be over 600 ranks as the Jantspyre rapids are still teaching well at 555 ranks.

Climbing seemed to top out for me at Lang bin with the Fir tree around 300 ranks. After that, I couldn't find anywhere in Therengia to teach me well. I did find the river bank in the Crossings (Heavens End, near west of the boat pier) and its doing very well for me so far.

The gaps then would be swimmming above 600, and climbing above 300~unless Ive missed something.

Have you tried the walls near the Handsome Plateau?

Where is the best spot to train swimming at 80-140 ranks?

I'm curious how people train their swimming as well - I tend to use the ladder in Haven until I am locked and then wander off to other things. So far this hasn't exactly made my swimming skyrocket.

Is there a better way? Is it just that I need to spend more time with it? Other skills like Arcana or Foraging seem to be moving much faster...but then I am a Bard so that would make sense.

There is stream near lang bin. From memory, I think from the bin, north three times and then west til the bridge. Look under the bridge and youll see a stream, or brook. I swam there alot starting at about 70 ranks til over 200. Swimming is time consuming if you want to train it alot. Even if your not successful in your attempt to swim in an area, you will still learn (slower, as successful swims teach more) so just keep at it. If youre under 100 ranks, just keep swiming west then east. If you cant make it back to where you entered, just swim all the way down stream and you'll find an exit on the other end.

The landholding area is easiest to train by going with the current then looping back on dry land. Do this until about 80 ranks give or take a few, then do the east west thing.
