TDP's per circle formula on 03/22/2008 12:40 PM CDT

First off, does anyone know the exact formula for calculating when you'll start receiving 100 TDP's per circle instead of 50? I've read all the conventional wisdom about not spending TDP's, the fact you can start getting 100 per circle at 10th circle, and that around 18th circle everybody gets 100 TDP's per circle.

Secondly, I think that its unfair that you can miss out on those TDP's by training efficiently and acquiring more skills per circle, yielding the extra TDP's to train stats higher. It should be done away with in the interests of game balance. If it remains, I'd at least like to know what I have to shoot for in order to get those additional 400 TDP's (50 per circle, for 8 circles.)

From what I recall, it's when your circle is greater than your stat average.

If your stat average is higher than your current circle, you get 50 + circle, otherwise you get 100 + circle. So since you start with an 80 roll, if you spend no TDPs you will get the 100 at 10th circle.

Here's what I've figured out so far... Your stat average (rounded down) must be equal to or less than your circle in order to receive 100 TDP's per circle. I have one more circle and a small test to confirm. Circle 13, with a stat average of 13.75, my character received his first 100 TDP's per circle.

That's correct and was already said in this thread

https://www.play.net/forums/messages.asp?forum=20&category=3&topic=8&message=1815

the only thing that changed is it's impossible to have a stat average below 8 with the change so the minimum circle for getting 100 is 9

I read that post, but I must have missed the part about rounding the stat average down. Its pretty significant in my book and allows for several additional stat points when training a new character.

Yes thats correct and my testing confirms this. So in summary, to get 100 TDP's at circle 10 you're maximum stat average would have to be 10.875 or less, allowing you to train any stat or combination of stats 7 times. I hope this helps all the newbs out there, as well as us powergamers.

wow, so I'm circle 19 now and have missed out on 300 TDPs. Nice to know that I was penalized for spending my TDPs early...

It would only matter if 99% of us did it the other way and you were the only one who messed up. Get over it and train more skills for those tdps.

Pumping stats early lets you perform better in combat and learn faster, therefore letting you circle faster to get more tdps. TDPs per circle is a useless ratio because it's lacking a critical third leg: time investment.

Heh, sorry, that post came off as pretty bitter. Just woke up the wrong side of the bed and this was the first post I happened to read.

I guess I'm just shocked that in all the beginner's guides I read, no one mentioned this. But I can only blame myself as I now see it on the wiki...

Aveda is right. To get the maximum TDPs you have to wait 10 circles to train stats. That definitely slows you down, especially with combat skills.

Don't beat yourself up about it though, it wasn't common knowledge until relatively recently.

It's going to suck for those commoners that plan on joining the necromancer guild.

Not really. Do you know how much of a head start with training time they're getting? I mean, they could wait 'til the guild is released, but then they have to spend months playing catch up.

Second what Aveda said, well put. Circle, tdps, stats, and all other char. statistical info means nothing without taking into consideration the time investment.

If it makes you feel any better ive only waited to train stats once, out of about 30-40 characters now. and it isnt like the one that waited had incredible stats. I do distinctely remember it being a pain in the butt though!

In the long-term the character manager changes or those who waited to train a stat to get those extra 700 TDPs really won't make much of a difference. Offense is scaled such in DR that five circles worth of stats don't really mean much.

This would definitely make a difference if it was a long-term trend but as a one-time bonus it is neat but isn't worth fretting about for me personally.

For an experienced player, those circles (1-18) go pretty quickly and can easily be done without spending the TDP's. This aspect of the game really only penalizes new players and should be done away with to level the playing field. It doesn't affect me much, but with the recent movements to balance a characters starting roll it seems like this would be another logical step.

And for those experienced players starting over they, well.. are just starting over and still are young and not anywhere near where they should be have they stuck to a single character. It's still not a big difference in the long run and as I already said, just train more skills, get the tdp's and not worry about it.
