I've done a bit of testing in the hopes of pinning down the amount the relative mana levels represent when sensing adjacent rooms mana pre-300 ranks. Here's my numbers so far. I'm sure its incomplete.

Relative Difference SensedMana Level Difference
around the same0 or 1 step
somewhat more/less1, 2 or 3 steps
moderately more/less2, 3 or 4 steps
much more/less4 steps
immensely more/less5 or 6 steps
incredibly more/less7 steps

All tested mana levels ranged between pale and lumnious. Each room was consistent over multiple checks so I don't think a skill check that gives different numbers is involved. This was tested with a character having normal sensing capability and thus the finest mana resolution. A step refers to the difference in mana levels as per the listing Z gave us. E.g. luminous to glowing is 3 steps.

It seems odd that some of the ranges cover 3 steps and overlap adjacent ranges by 2 steps. Even accounting for mana levels being a range, that should only cause an overlap of 1 step not 2. Perhaps someone with clearer thinking on it could explain that.
