Probably the coolest, and IMO, most realistically playable idea for a meditation effect I've seen posted has been the blood staunch effect. There's been a lot of ideas posted, some good, some kinda silly, but I hope that the blood staunch one makes it near the top of the list once Aurdun and co. get time to do cool things to meditate.
Oh, and welcome back, Simon.

I would like to add to the roar entry.
And maybe this should be in the roars folder but it was being discussed here....
This has to do with Pvp\Sparring\Group hunting or whenever other people are around. Roars are a pain, and annoying when it comes to others. Just the other day i was sparring someone and while they are striking me down with lightning bolts and such I possibly could win or come back if I could actually use my ability like they can, but I can't and if I do I just granted consent to the other 8 people in the room watching (although most people wouldn't care because of the following) and they will all shrug it off anyways (lol?) Roars are pretty much pointless to use in the common gathering places where alot of people like to spar and PVP\tourny.
So out of this babbling comes the suggestion which I know was suggested before:
roar lash engaged (or whatever verb is appropriate and available)
which would affectively only affect people engaged to you.....kind of like magic users got with CL?
please?

Re: Meditations on 12/30/2008 02:12 PM CST
I really think that's one of the disadvantages of using roars. I don't say that as a bad thing, but I think the roar system has a LOT of checks making it fair already. However, it is SITUATIONAL. Much more so than spells. You described the lightning bolt spell where it only affects one individual. It's based on PM, perhaps even HA if the mage harnesses into the spell and the mana flowing through that particular room. In a way, that spell is situational too, but not as situation as roars.
Would it be nice to have the option to intimidate ONE foe as opposed to 20 if, in the situation where 18 other people are standing in the room? I agree, it would help a lot and add to the flexibility of the roar system in terms of usage. Maybe making it contest just those two people in question without a group bonus/penalty involved.
It's definitely two perspectives of looking at the system.

Re: Meditations on 12/30/2008 02:55 PM CST
Aurdun mentioned that when he looks at roars, the calcs will be changed. Vocals will play a part in it as well. It's possible they will become less situational than they are now, which to me would benefit us a whole lot.
A lot of bonuses that we receive to roaring are based on our standing with our opponent. If we are at melee then roars are strengthened. Problem is, getting to melee these days can be difficult. If we are in better position than our opponent we get a bonus to roaring. Thing is, if we're dominating them then there's a good chance we are already going to win. It would be cool if some of these bonuses are replaced by the vocals skill, but I have no idea what role vocals will play other than not being a major/significant role in roaring. I've gained 130 ranks in about 4 months and will keep going, just in case.
I view the major disadvantage to roaring is being in a room full of people. It makes roars completely and absolutely useless. I would like to see this changed in one of two ways:
1. By allowing us to roar a single target or a select amount of targets of our choice.
2. By giving us the choice to roar only those engaged to us or the entire room, similar to how CL was done.
However, I imagine if we were ever allowed to roar a single target then it would only be fair to do away with our major advantage, which is the amount of power we receive for roaring with others in our group. While I enjoy this benefit, I'd be in favor of it going away if we could roar a single target.

Agreed 100%. The relative inability to use roars in many meaningful situations prompted me to drop Charisma 6 points in the Respec.

Meditation ideas on 08/05/2009 06:28 PM CDT
After reading the posts about the informal meeting, I decided to brainstorm a couple of ideas for meditations.
Overall, I see meditations being more non-combat as meditation itself is an introspective focusing of one's mind and will. To that end, here are some ideas for what I feel would be some good things for meditations to do:
-Blood staunch. I remember being among the first to propose this back in the day. Glad to see it's being considered.
-Lockpick/disarm boost. It would be nice to have something to help those of us who work box skills to have a lil bit of a kick to our ability to do so.
-Mech/forge factor boost. Sure, forging is getting re-written. But it would be nice to have a way to boost our ability to create weapons (or pretty paper flowers).
-Foraging boost. Okay, I'm starting to run out of ideas here. Heh.

Other survivals - hiding/stalking/climbing/swimming. Not all in the same meditation, of course.
I wonder... will these be concentration-based, like Khri, or based on IF?

Meditate Death- Not quite the same as a berserk, it causes the warrior's rage to crystallize rather than explode. His eyes are cold as he then strides forth to meet his enemy. Only one will survive.

Lock picking meditation NO, Hammer, YES! I think we should be able to just bash a box and open it depending on strenght of the barbarian/player and strenght of the box. Give a % chance to set off the trap (sometimes it would just be smashed) and reduce the treasure found by a random %, but let us BASH!
Lock picking and disarm are nice skills, but I just leave all the boxes lying because I cannot open them. A choice I made the fourth time boxe difficulty got uptweaked and I fell back down the critter ladder on what I could open. I took the hint and left picking to the pro's.
Barbarian Bash box, find shinies! That does not predlude the possibility for another barb to delicately pick the box and open it for more. This would give us more flexibility. Different 'paths' within our and other guilds. We used to be able to do this (on the forge) but such an outcry came that it was removed. Put it back please, I do NOT save boxes for thieves unless they are friends, and this change would not prevent me doing that.
Flexibility!

Wouldn't that undermine the point of training box skills in the first place? The Ranger compost trick was intentionally removed for this reason.
Also, I don't understand why you're leaving boxes on the ground now when you can just "loot treasure".

Re: Meditation ideas on 08/06/2009 08:51 AM CDT
I do loot treasure now. Mostly I hunt celpeze and armidillos, neither of which drop boxes. I thought loot treasure did not reduce the chance of finding a box, just if you would have found the box, you got nothing. Do you get the same value of treasure drop if you just do this vs getting a box? Did you ever get the equivalent of a "golden" box just as treasure? Seems unfair if not.
I guess the critters with more would treasure to carry would used trapped boxes... Even stupid ones. Traps should be based on critter intelegence, but that is not for this forum.
Ahh well.

No, loot treasure gives you a normal coin/gem drop instead of boxes.
>Do you get the same value of treasure drop if you just do this vs getting a box? Did you ever get the equivalent of a "golden" box just as treasure? Seems unfair if not.
No, you get slightly less value this way since boxes are worth more than normal drops on average. However, you don't need to spend time or risk injury with boxes. Getting the exact same amount of treasure without using boxes would make boxes completely pointless except for circling. That would be a step backwards. Seems more than fair right now to me.

How do we justify a meditation (an inherently calm state of mind) being able to be used in combat (an inherently non-calm environment and state of body)?
This is why I limited my meditation suggestions to non-combat ideas. Ok sure, maybe I'm thinking inside the box here, but to me meditations are more of a non-combat thing than a combat thing.

They are one with their sword and happiest when mass murdering goblins. =D? Yay, nay?
