So basically there would be no downside to death at all?

No you loose all the other skill pools just not the combat ones.

You could even limit it it further to just weapon skills since we are a weapon primary guild.

Just pick yourself up all Batman like and get back in there.

Well, to begin with there would probably be some cost associated with using the ability in the first place, be it IF or concentration or what have you. Then there's the time lost to departing or getting a raise (especially in tricky/buggy depart areas). Possibility of losing a weapon (and ammo) too. Favor cost, rez sickness, item damage if you depart without them. IF is tanked on death, and so are heath/spirit/fatigue. Loss of coins unless you burn a favor to keep them or get dragged.

I don't see anything wrong/unbalancing in the suggestion, really.

I guess the real question is, what makes this the domain of barbarians?

The same thing that makes mages able to summon shields and weapons, I suppose. While clerics and warmies are not really focused on armor, they can summon shields out of thin air because it's magic and they can cast it. Warmies can also create magic weapons (FS and FoS) because they can cast magic. The guild isn't focused on weapons or armor, but that doesn't mean they can't have abilities that involve them provided such abilities make sense.

Barbarians generally spend a lot of time in combat, as it is the guild's primary focus.
Death happens in combat. Quite a lot for some people.
Barbarians can focus their mind with meditations.

So an ability relating to death in combat, combat skills, and a focused mind... yeah, it fits the bill.

I'm not buying it. You die, you lose everything. EXP goes clear, health, stamina, concentration, spirit, etc. All gone.

Interesting idea, but I'm not buying it. I would rather see something a bit more reasonable like a special bond with our weapon that when we die, we retain a "death grip" on it and we depart with our weapon in hand.

I'd like to see that for everyone via an enchantment. But if not, it seems like a very Barbarian thing.

Yeah. I really just don't want to see any guild in the game have access to this sort of "cheating death" stuff.

For Barbarians I would rather see abilities that gives the Barbarian more options for avoiding death in the first place either by killing what's trying to kill you harder, better, faster, stronger or by defending better.

If anything keeping exp through death should either:

Be a function of favors (Death DOES string way more with new xp) for everyone.

- or -

A variant of MF for clerics. Like a 100th level ability thing where instead of dying MF triggers early to protect your mind.

How about a meditation that allows you to wield and use two weapons at once since they are redoing combat and the barb guild.

You mean like being able to attack with an OH Weapon while the MH is in RT?

I think that should be available to everyone by default as long as you are attempting to use two weapons.

I was pretty disappointed when I found out that you couldn't attack with the OH while the MH was in RT.

If you're looking for a Meditation to make Dual Wield better, then I think the Meditation should remove any penalty with your OH assuming there would be some sort of OH penalty when you're able to attack with two weapons at the same time.

If I recall correctly I think this was the original intention of offhand but they ran into a roadblock with the coding that made it either difficult or impossible, can't remember what the reason was, but I think it was planned?

that gives me hope maybe it will end up in the combat rewrite.

I'd like to see a meditation honor past warriors such as Telfolgi to relate to his peculiar strengths. Such as a stealth related meditation as he is known for his skill in avoiding being found. Maybe an anti-locate, anti-contact type of ability.

This could lead to meditation on other past warriors for their feats.

Similar to this, though from a lore perspective, can Barbs have something similar to recalls where we can meditate on past great Barbarians and get some loretard messaging telling us a story or something?
