Subject says it all, i got 12 perfect edge grinds on a 35 stone claymore and couldn't do more. i'm pretty sure there are more to be done as i'm only 271 in 2HE and its my highest blade. still didn't achieve BC slice, but slice compared the same as my vib forged 34 stone bc slice claymore. i'm guessin i must be gettin close to capping the mix, heres a compare of his 34 stone to my 35 stone.
You are certain that the claymore is weaker than the claymore.
You are certain that the claymore is about as balanced as the claymore.
You are certain that the claymore is a little less suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength than the claymore.
You are certain that the claymore does about as much puncture damage as the claymore.
You are certain that the claymore does about as much slice damage as the claymore.
You are certain that the claymore does about as much impact damage as the claymore.
You think it is likely that the claymore weighs a little less than the claymore.

whoot for me personal best so far in the forge. kinda figured about the time i'd be making some good blades the system would finally get overhauled heh. the upcoming change has made me reluctant to train anymore LE and concentrate on folding paper as all I really wanted to achieve with this character was being a forger.

These are the ones I make at those weights..
34 stone claymore - (l,bc,f,d,f moderately strong) ground 10 for edge
36 stone claymore - (l,bc,f,d,r well constructed) ground 11 for edge

That right there tells me the problem is the mix you are using, it's just is not capable of reaching BC slice at that weight.
The lightest you can go with the well constructed versions is 36 stones for BC slice, but it has to be a very high quality mix.
<Shameless plug>
I was the first one to make mixes for 36 stone f/bc/f d/r WC and 34 stone l/bc/f d/f MS claymores, when at the time the lightest anymore else made was around 46 stone BC slice (Madgar), but no one remembers. Wheeeeee.

cool thanks for that dragoonseal. the mixing is all the science and i know i've got a lot to learn yet. guess when i get a wild hair i'll go spend a bunch more plats and research mixes more. so it seems if/when i can figure out a better mix i'll hit bone crushing slice with fewer grinds if i'm reading you correctly?

For well constructed 36 stone BC slice you'll need every edge grind possible, probably regardless of skill. As per Drevid's post 11 is probably the limit, but I honestly don't remember these days. You'll require less grinds if you use a heavier mix, or if you use the weaker construction higher slice kind of mixes.

If all you're looking for is max slice and don't mind giving up some impact and construction to get it, go ahead and throw in a few extra dust at the final dusting step and you should eventually hit BC slice.

I'll have to check my notes when I get home, but I think you lose some suitedness as well. A good rule of thumb I've found is to make a mix for 2.5% carbon for a given density and volume, and multiply the final dust by a factor of 10. Any less and you stand to not fully benefit from the process. Any more and the mix can bug out.

I am going to speculate the cap on grinds is a 20% improvement to a given stat. For slice that means a stat of 70 could be ground ~14 times. Though I have yet to narrow down specifically where ranges like "severe" and "bone crushing" lie.
