I'm baaaack!
Now available for Platinum and Prime testing is another system fix, this one to the instrument system. As of this post, tunable instruments will once more start to slowly work their way out of tune, generally going flat over time.
Now before anyone panics, this is currently set at a rate that should mean that you'll probably have to stop and clean your instrument long before it gets too out of tune to play well. In other words, if you need to stop and clean an instrument, it's probably a good time to check the tuning as well. Instruments that require tuning will gradually drift flat, although they are capped to stop once they are loose enough. Out-of-tune instruments are generally more difficult to play, and in the future playing out-of-tune instruments may make the parts wear out faster. The latter is NOT live with this release, however.
This feature of instruments has been restored as part of the long process of restoring other features that never made the transition from the old instrument system to the new, including but not limited to instrument bonding for bards and the need to replace strings/skins periodically. In addition, this will help us get closer to Instrument Crafting and related systems.
Note: If you are finding it too difficult or frustrating to get an instrument in tune, let me know. The TUNE verb was rewritten a few years back, around the same time most instruments stopped going out of tune in most cases. As a result, the new TUNE has seen very little use, and the difficulties may need to be adjusted slightly, especially for those with very little skill.
