Once captivated by the singer, victims will find themselves reluctant to leave. Performed loudly, it will draw listeners from afar. Curiously, a quietly sung rendition has the opposite effect -- not potent enough to ensnare from a distance, but loud enough to alert, it will ward many creatures away from the performer. Although it was originally conceived as a vocal enchante, contemporary musicians have found that the pulse of a drum enhances the potency of the effect."
