Armor question. on 04/13/2015 06:34 PM CDT
Is the bard armor in the scrip shop worth getting for everyday use? It looks really nice, and I like the emergency health boost; however, I'm wondering if the hinderance will end up with me taking more damage overall.

For comparison, this is what I'm wearing now (231 stones).
You feel certain that a steel ring hauberk appears to impose moderate (7/15) and moderate (7/15), offering:
fair (3/15) protection and very high (10/18) damage absorption for puncture attacks.
good (5/15) protection and very high (10/18) damage absorption for slice attacks.
moderate (4/15) protection and very high (10/18) damage absorption for impact attacks.
fair (3/15) protection and moderate (6/18) damage absorption for fire attacks.
fair (3/15) protection and moderate (6/18) damage absorption for cold attacks.
poor (1/15) protection and somewhat fair (4/18) damage absorption for electrical attacks.
If you were only wearing a steel ring hauberk your maneuvering would be insignificantly hindered and your stealth would be fairly hindered.
But considering all the armor and shields you are wearing or carrying, you are currently somewhat hindered and your stealth is moderately hindered.
You are certain that the ring hauberk very strong against damage (14/18), and practically in mint condition.

As an armor tert and evasion tert, that's definitely more hindrance than I would be happy with. But personally I highly value low hindrance. I haven't yet done a lot of testing yet at different hindrance levels, either.
Also, health boost is something we can already do with Lilt, it just takes a little time to cast.

For reference, this is a steel-alloy lorica -
You feel certain that a steel-alloy chain lorica appears to impose fair maneuvering hindrance and fair stealth hindrance, offering:
good protection and great damage absorption for puncture attacks.
very good protection and great damage absorption for slice attacks.
good protection and great damage absorption for impact attacks.
fair protection and moderate damage absorption for fire attacks.
fair protection and moderate damage absorption for cold attacks.
low protection and somewhat fair damage absorption for electrical attacks.
If you were only wearing a steel-alloy chain lorica your maneuvering would be minimally hindered and your stealth would be insignificantly hindered.
But considering all the armor and shields you are wearing or carrying, you are currently somewhat hindered and your stealth is somewhat hindered.

Huh. Interesting. I would have thought quest rewards, such as scrip, would be the best in the game; however, it seems like you're trading elemental absorption for a fraction of the hindrance with player made. So long as you're not PvPing against elemental using mages, it seems the MCS lorica is far and away better. Am I reading that correctly?

So, I typically mix, wearing leather greaves -
a steel-alloy chain lorica
a shalswar-hide targe sealed with protective wax
some thick bison-hide greaves sealed with protective wax
a steel-alloy mail balaclava
some steel-alloy mail vambraces
some steel-alloy mail gloves
And my hindrance is - But considering all the armor and shields you are wearing or carrying, you are currently somewhat hindered and your stealth is somewhat hindered.
Not great, but meh. When I switch to all chain - But considering all the armor and shields you are wearing or carrying, you are currently fairly hindered and your stealth is moderately hindered.
And yeah, MCS has good physical protection and relatively poor elemental protection. For PvE I think that's generally totally fine.

The DR Armorcrafting 3.0 link has a lot of good data in it.
>Do we know the numbers on the hindrance penalty? As in, am I losing 10% of my skills for each level of hindrance?
I don't think anyone knows the exact numbers, especially since hindrance is a range. Although I do think that evasion is affected more than parry/shield by hindrance?

I thought the individual items used to show stats, but the Google docs link at the top (that Rezzian provided the link for) has details.
The stats, aside from hindrance, are the same across armor types (anything chain is the same, anything ring is the same, etc.) for a given density and electrical/thermal/physical properties in the metal.
From what I can tell, changing density will affect absorption much more than protection.
