I know they rate as difficult on the scale of Wind instruments, but I was wondering if anyone knew roughly what skill in winds it takes before you can start to play them without fumbling?

Depending on your Music Theory, probably 350 ranks in Winds or so?

You could try practice breathing or practice stretching before playing the bagpipes. Should give a boost and let you know if you are close to the ranks required to play them.

>play min mast
Taking a deep breath, you begin to play your ebony bagpipes. A low, steady drone fills the air.
You fumble slightly as you begin a masterful minuet on your ebony bagpipes.

and after practice breathing.

You begin a masterful minuet on your ebony bagpipes with only the slightest hint of difficulty.

Well I finally got there today. Not quite as bad as I expected - my Musical Theory is just over 151 and my Winds is at 115. It's just off-key scales, but it's a start!

*runs and hides from off-key scales on the bagpipe before coming back*

Does that mean it'd sound pleasing to the ear and in-tune? ;)

Two wrongs don't make a right? Unless it's a double negative...

IMO Bagpipes are very pretty if played properly

Cute verbs and speaking from hiding are excellent ways to catch a lightning bolt in the face regardless of mystical ninja abilities.

Reminds me of a real life bard I was just reading about:

He fought with a sword (Claymore) and bow (with broad-head arrows) in World War II and played the bagpipes.
