Im guessin the answer is no, but I still gotta ask. Are there any stringed instruments that don't require a tool? If not, does anyone have a list of which ones use picks? My current one uses a bow, which causes problems between my tool and my short bow.

I use a psaltery which requires a pick. It's fairly difficult for a non bard though, or a young bard.

As for ones that don't require anything. A lute or a lyre? I can't remember, but I could of swore in the past one of those could of been played with just your fingers.

For a non-bard, my music skills are pretty good. Ill have to test the lute and the lyre, I'm just hoping they aren't too easy for me. Thanks for the fast response though, its greatly appreciated.

Lyre requires no tool that's for sure. As for easiness, unless you're high with strings I'll guess you can still pump something out of it with the right play style.

I have well into the 300's with Winds and I still learn from my txistu(one of the easiest wind instruments in the game), even without touching near half of the more complex styles. Unless you're packing like 800+ ranks, I think you can learn from any instrument if you use the right style to play it.

But if there was only a way to find the right style without all the hassle!

I know this probably won't help you, but it's worth mentioning just because it's cool. There is a stationary harpsichord in the Trigomas Residence in Theren that teaches strings very well and only requires you be sitting down. If you're ever in Theren, it's a nice room to practice in. Plenty of elemental mana, and a stocked bar just across the hall.

Better to have problems between your tool and short bow than to have no problems with the bow and a short tool...

Or an instrument tool?

Hmm, speaking of that, could we have an instrument feat where we play our instruments with our mind? You know you want to...

You could try cradling a harp or lyre in your lap and pluck the strings with your tongue maybe? Or run your nose back and forth across them.

Yea, and I don't think anyone in any instance of DR has that much stringed instrument skill. Muahaha.

Though, I have to admit, that does make me ponder the possibilities of channeling mana into an instrument to 'amplify' it.
