I'm curious as to whether there are racial modifiers on instrument types. My Prydaen can played strings much better with less ranks than winds or percussions. Granted, he's just starting and is using beginner intstruments, but he can already play arpeggios confidently with slight difficulty, where as he struggles to even start playing scales off-key with his whistle or a halting ruff with his tambourine. Winds and percussion were higher ranks, but now that strings appear to be natural to him, those ranks are climbing fast and are now higher than winds and percussion. Any help and ideas on how to rememdy this will be appreciated. Then again, with less than 20 ranks in each, I may perhaps just have to wait it out until my skill grows.

Thanks,

I like to think that race makes a difference. Sas is a pryd and she really has a hard time with OBOES. Dreadful things really. Her lips just dont seem to work well with them. She can play them she just really doesnt care to.

HEH, heyo Sasabee, been a while. Thanks for the response. Seems your thinking is along the same lines as mine. Since Prydaens have fangs, I can see them having difficulty with winds, and possibly claws causing problems with percussions, while claws give benifits to strings. Since I've noticed that my character actually has these difficulties, I just wanted to see if there are actually racial modifiers applied to music lore.

Exactly 0. The differences you're seeing are the comparative instrument complexities.

Sasabee, oboes are one of the hardest wind instruments out there. If you weren't having a hard time with it, I'd be impressed.

Thanks Shavay. So is there a possibility that I could pick up easier instruments, which would almost be pointless now since I've almost worked through the trouble. Just would like to know for future reference.

Also the red oboes are harder to play then the black ones. Mick will tell you differernt but that coz she has those pouty elfin lips. I think the elves thought up oboes just to make us do odd things with our lips.

You owe me a new keyboard, now that the old one has coffee soaked into it. Preferably this one:

Email me for a delivery address. Sooner the better, since I hate posting from the hubby's comp.

Thank you.

Eww to the max.

Get this one. It's got an awesome screen that I don't really use for anything, and backlit keys that are actually useful. And USB ports, which are nice. It's not very ergonomic, but it is... uh... rectangular.

But get it from Newegg. It's cheaper.

I own the MS Ergonomic 4000 and it's awesome. The only reason I'd want that Logitech is for the 18 arbitrary buttons on the side for more macros, but eh.

Way more expensive than what I need, for features that I don't need. And I want ergonomic. Some may not like it (it does take some getting used to), but after my old ergonomic fizzled out, believe me, I felt the difference going back to a standard keyboard.

And...umm...(to get back on topic)...whatdya think ergonomically designed instruments would look like? :D

Something that would raise red flags for that one guy who says we can't promote drug use in the game. :D

Just be grateful Silvyrfrost does not require us to make our own reeds for them. Now THAT's not pretty to learn at ALL.

Although, it'd probably teach well!

You really should be careful what you post. Never know when Dart might be reading and decide "Hey, that's not a bad idea..."

You have nothing to fear from Dart, so long as he keeps that Instrument Rewrite firmly in his sights (if he does, then he thinks of everything.) It's only when he gets distracted with other things such as the upcoming performance combos (clap, stomp, various dance moves, "body music" (armpits, nose flutes, and so on), etc) that trigger the "ooh, me likey".

As a single reed player, I thankfully was spared the tedium of learning how to make reeds. I do have lots of oboe and bassoon player friends who groan and tremble slightly when you start talking about reed making.

It's an arduous and time consuming process that most times yields you nothing special.

So... Dart... no,it's not a good idea. Learning to play instruments can be time consuming enough for bards... Let's make this one concession to realism die a grisly death versus playability.
