Sometimes, as a Cleric, I feel a little useless. Especially under 30. Yes, I can assist with memories or soul bonding or maybe turn a mime back into a person, but that's about it.
What I was thinking was, since Clerics are the conduit between life and death and all that, perhaps we could have some more abilities that are based on that.
For example, perhaps only clerics (or maybe clerics, paladins, empaths...necros?) would be able to see when people die. Further, perhaps with a spell up or a certain ability a Cleric could get a flash of where the person died, or some sort of dead-only locate spell. Maybe at high enough levels or with the right character focus a cleric could even transport too where the body is to help with dragging, or maybe that's too much, but maybe they could project their spirit to the dead person and keep them company, comfort them you know..death is upsetting right. Well, just a few thoughts.
Oh I had another thought while i was typing this. Maybe at the very high end, a cleric could channel the power of his/her chosen god. Sort of become a "vessel." Maybe you'd get a unique one cast spell out of it, or a bonus to certain stats/skills, or an instant kill weapon swing (against NPCs). Or even just for RP purposes really.
Ok I'm done now.

I'll be honest. Due to the history of the guild I simply have no interest in corpse monkey spells. There is a lot of room to play a cleric that has nothing to do with corpses. Clerics are first and foremost the conduit of and servants to the divine in DR. While resurrection is an amazing feat, to focus overly much hinders the guild as a whole.
To me, this would greatly expand how usefull pocket clerics are, but add more hassle and rancor to a primary cleric. The more tools you give a person to deal with something, the more players expect it to be done, regardless of convenience or benefit to the clerics.

>>Ucu
Seconded.
I like Resurrection, but honestly the new depart mechanics heavily cut into Resurrection's value, the only real exception being extremely high level characters who might need hours of grinding to make up for a rezz-less depart simply because they pulse so slow.
I am personally not of the opinion this is a bad thing. I would actually like to see MF's value increased before I would worry about Resurrection.

>While I like the theory of your suggestions I feel you should know that corpse location is something that's been discussed here several times though I don't recall a definitive yes/no on it.
>As to the conduit type ability(ies), I like the idea very much
Look up spirit beacon on epedia. And vigil functions as a link for rejuve and a small battery of spells.
While I never have anything witty to say, I currently lack anything venemous either.

Hmm..ok I see your points and they make sense. But I still think it could be implemented as a specific focus, perhaps one that in choosing forgoes other focuses or spells or something of the such. Maybe instead of the commune system that no one seems to use whenever i ask about it there could be a split that would follow those skills, or just let you chose your communes and some of them would do the things i previously mentioned.
But, all in all, I do see what you are saying about rezzing being not as useful in general as it used to be and some ppl not wanting to play their Cleric that way.

Sort of like the skill trees in WoW?

Who do you speak with? Is this mostly in the Crossing?
I didn't personally bother with communes initially either in lower circles, but they're awesome once you get higher. With a loaded pilgrims badge and PRAY, you can have the offensive commune + the defensive commune going 24/7 with max devotion. It's minimal fuss too: they cost no mana and last one minute for every circle, which means you have a defensive buff that potentially lasts two and a half hours. Very cool.

I strongly suggest staying away from communes. People don't use them because they don't understand the system. They are kind of outside global caps on effect and duration, aren't they? I don't use them because I avoid using buffs in general, I don't like having to recast.
I understand your desire, but perhaps empath would be a better a better choice for your mentality and drive? They have a toolset which is much more focused on aiding other players, but is still robust as far as personal hunting etc.

They're being changed (nerfed) in 3.0. In the meantime, I use defense quite often and offense somewhat often. As was stated, even with using them constantly, devotion is pretty simple to keep filled up.
I'm really a fan of the conduit/channeling your(or other for some reason) patron deity as a special attack/spell/ability idea.

I'm that lazy. Though probably I can start. They'll last me nearly an hour now. Mostly I'd forgotten about them.
Does combat learning penalize based on bonuses anymore? Can't remember.

I am just the opposite of Liuri- Flavius uses the offensive commune whenever he uses weapons and the defensive commune only occasionally, when he is really pushing his boundaries. It makes training weapons just that much more fun.
While I understand the rational for these bonuses going away, I am still very sad about losing the offensive bonus. Frankly, it probably speeds up training HX by 25% and that is huge for HX. Hopefully with the new system HX won't need such a cheat to train well.
Oh- just hit 400 with HX. Whatever anyone tells you, don't go HX primary.
In regards to the original suggestions- I would love an ability- or a flash to see the location of where a person died. I would go to the aid of friends and acquantances much, much more often if I knew they died in the same provence.
