I'm going to steal from a text and substitute the words in it.

Points to whoever can identify it.

===

"The first step is knowledge. A cleric must understand the basic traits of the undead in order to fight it. In a few years, he knows more about perversions than most amateur necromancers. Then the second step: the moment he breaks the rules and allows some aspect of unlife to survive or remain so that he can study it and learn from it.

...

"The third step... the third step is the line itself. When the cleric becomes a radical. When he chooses to use necromancy against necromancy. When he employs the undead. When he asks a necromancer for help."

The door is open for the development of a Clerical sorcery someday, but it will not be a form of necromancy.

I mean, since by definition necromancy is Life + other, and Holy and Life do not mix ever, that makes sense.

There's no reason why the spells can't have similar functions to necromantic spells I would assume though.

I'd love to see sorcery that elaborates on the groundwork that EF and BF lay down i.e. manipulating soul and spirit energy to sinister ends.

Yeah, but I didn't have anything except necromancy to use because the Cleric guild is so goody-goody their Dark Side consists of refusing raises. <shines flashlight under chin>

Well, that and the occasional prayer to Trothfang.

So, here's some questions. If Necromancy involves corporeal undead:

A) What do you call what fallen Clerics do with the whole summoning death spirits and the like? Soulmancy?
B) Why can GMPC Necromancers like Xerasyth also summon spirits and the like when they are clearly the life+elemental/lunar type?

I was hoping they would handwave spirit-style noncorporeal undead into "mere" cursed beings that would fall within the realm of spirit-based clerical sorcery because that makes the most sense to me as far as which path to take for retconning.

>> GMPC

That's why.
