This is something that has always stuck in my craw about this game world.
We have a guild. The we have a handful of guild gurus in the mix, but one would expect that if this guild (or any guild) existed for so long and has the influence enough to make policy for thousands of adventurer members that there is more to the bureaucracy than just a few guild leaders sitting like hermits in their little guild outposts 24 x 7. Looking at the thieve's guild, if any of the members cross the line they can get thugged for their indescretions. This would mean there are more people in the mix than just the guild gurus.
I would have to assume a bureaucracy as large and powerful as a guild there are tons of people behind the scenes doing all kinds of tasks we don't see like administration, research (Magic, combat and scholarly), gophers, political liaisons, etc. If this assumption is correct, it is hard to swallow that this bureaucratic juggernaut would see the fighting and killing being so common within their own guild walls and just shrug and say "boys will be boys"
One could argue that the guild would rely on the adventuring arm of the guild (us) to handle this kind of problem. I have two problems with this logic.
1 - Though a logical argument RP-wise, it is not supported through PvP policies. If I, as a player, decided to go cleaning house for people sparring in the guild, or fighting or killing or stealing, or any other activity that a bureaucratic group would find unacceptable within their own halls, I would be locked out before I could resheathe my blade and have an ale.
2 - If the bureaucratic entity (The guild) really did care enough about this glaring disrespect of their own guildhall and expected the adventuring arm of the guild to take care of it, they would not only have made this clear to us, they would have enforced it through declining of promotions and spells etc. Of course they have not stepped in that direction one bit.
Thus the adventuring arm of the guild needs to look to the administraive arm of the guild to police this matter. I don't care how they handle it RP-wise, no guild in the main hub of adventuring activity should put up with this nonsense. Have our political liaisons go to the government of the city and demand policing, or negotiate with other guilds to help with the problem.
The guild is not a handful of guild gurus and a ton of adventurers, it is a large organization, make it act like one. And put an end to the troublemaker's statements like "I can do whatever I want wherever I want." No, in some places there are rules and rammifications.
