Here a a log for everyone to ponder over how impossible it may be to save anyone in the dying state - even if you get to them prior to them reaching that state.
>hold gaun
You pull off some black gauntlets from your hands.
Kitsunne says, "help"
>put gaun in my back
You put your gauntlets in your mesh backpack.
>touch kits
You touch Kitsunne.
You sense a successful empathic link has been forged between you and Kitsunne.
You feel the burning fire of pain and suffering building slowly as you instinctively draw out the truth behind Kitsunne's injuries.
Kitsunne's injuries include...
Wounds to the ABDOMEN:
Fresh External: gaping holes in the abdomen -- severe
Kitsunne is suffering from a very severe loss of vitality (75%).
>take kit vit
You touch Kitsunne.
You feel the transfer beginning as a cold stillness settles in the center of your being and you steel yourself for the impending explosion of pain.
>take kit abd
You touch Kitsunne.
You feel the transfer beginning as a cold stillness settles in the center of your being and you steel yourself for the impending explosion of pain.
>
With a few arcane words, Kintalia's eyes darken unnaturally to a shade as black as a starless night!
>
Tweezy says, "oh hell"
>
Kitsunne falls down!
Kitsunne's in shock and dying!
* Kitsunne is slain before your eyes!
Kitsunne's driftwood crate falls to the ground.
Sypria blinks.
Kintalia winces.
You feel your vitality transferring to Kitsunne.
The bandages binding Kitsunne's abdomen become useless and fall apart.
You feel a burning pain in your abdomen as Kitsunne's wound transfers to you.
!>
Tweezy picks up a mud-stained driftwood crate.
!>
Tweezy frowns.
!>frown
!>
You frown.
!>
Kintalia says, "that crate so wasn't worth it"
!>break all
!>
Kintalia begins nagging Kitsunne unmercifully.
!>
You feel all healing links between you and Kitsunne break.
You no longer have any healing links.

P.S. I probably should have casted HL but I'm not used to healing while I'm sober.

Yea, it's pretty stupid if you ask me. I mean it is possible to survive, all-things-granted, but more often than not you're dead just because our ability to heal doesn't pulse quick enough usually.
I think your only hope would be to be a good enough woudn transferer to be able to take everything in one huge swoop...

Also try casting refresh, or have a bard Lilt, or perhaps a war mage cast zephyr. In shock and dying deaths are as much from a lack of fatigue as a lack of vitality- although I agree that if a person has full vitality even while in shock he shouldn't die.

I dont think HL would have helped. Whenever someone is that far gone though, I tend to "take <unfortunate victime> vit fast". Seems to make that first pulse happen quite a bit sooner, and also makes it bigger. But, alas... some you just cannot save. This is when you grab a barrel of good grog (or moonie brew) and toast to appreciating life while you're alive, and asking for help sooner.

Every now and then you'll have someone that has a bleeder bad enough to get them to dying but too bad not to stop there, so they end up dying instantly when it pulses anyway.
Tend/heart link/quick vitality transfer would have worked, but most people are stupid and don't listen when you tell them to sit down. Stupid people.

I think in shock and dying was another way to help people who have been scuffed to death... not those who had their stomach ripped out and stomped on.

That's the way I remember it, Zarius.
One day I got a call to help a fellow cleric who was in shock and dying near Riverhaven. He didn't have any serious wounds that I saw, but he was scuffed up a lot. I couldn't drag him back to Haven, so I guarded him and made use of an Imnera rune and a few herbs. He recoverred without any further incident.

Fast = Quick. They are synonyms, though I don't really understand why both were included as we never before had such options on TAKE or TRANSFER. Must be some other command that uses FAST rather than QUICK.
Oh, and more than likely the poor guy's stamina was extremely low (like sub-10 or something). It's practically impossible to save anyone with extremely low stamina at that point when they aren't getting beat on and only have 1 severe-level wound.
J'Lo, no that other one

Villya once saved Elavin in shock/dying state...that was when I knew we were going to be friends...
I also grabbed someone from dying one time...the guy was shocked that he lived. :preen:

I included Fast as a synonym for Quick (just like CAREFUL and SLOW) because some people might prefer one over the other.
That's the only reason :)

And I, for one, am grateful. Redundancy based on intuitive synonyms is a great way to rid the game of the pain and frustration of 'guess the syntax'.
Hey, Obs... since yer listening, I'd like to shamelessly beg for, er, mention an old idea which is very near the top of my list of most-wished-for improvements to DR:
HELP <verb>
Outputs usage and help info for <verb>. HELP would be valid for all and I mean all the verbs in the game. This would replace the current highly non-intuitive and irregular help system. And in turn, that would make the game easier to learn for newbies, and more playable for veterans.
What do you think, Obseden, would this have any chance of implementation?

The whole universal HELP <verb> thing would be so nice.
It'd ease the pain of help <verb>, <verb> help, or <verb> /help guessing. And half the time you don't even get a "Please rephrase that command." message.
