Disappearing Acts by Jodi Piccoult ... I really enjoyed it...told from multiple perspectives about a woman who was kidnapped by her father as a child....and how things transpire after she finds out. I really enjoyed the multi p.o.v. part...but courtroom scenes were, at times, unbelievable and the ending was a little too pat. Still, it was a well told story with interesting and very likable characters.

Can You Keep a Secret? by Kate Kinsella... Funny as heck. Female, British protagonist dealing with career and love life. You know, same vein as Bridget Jones. But I like that kind of stuff. Jane Austen did it best, and those British authors still have a monopoly on humorous satire of women and their world. I haven't finished it...just a couple more chapters...

Pictures of Hollis Woods is my next read.

Oh, almost forgot that The King of Torts by John Grisham is in there between the Piccoult and Kinsella one. Far from Grisham's best work... about a tort lawyer. Yet, I still enjoyed it. I was disappointed because I expected more intrigue and more layers like in Grisham's other courtroom novels. Despite that, I never found myself bored with it.

So, it's also a recommendation.

You know, I have read probably almost all of John Grisham's books, and while I enjoy them to a certain degree, the endings always annoy me. Obviously the main plot has to do with the trial, but there is also the ongoing story of the lawyer's own life and situation. So in the second to last chapter, the trial resolves itself one way or the other, and then it's like Grisham goes "Oh darn, now I've got to figure out how to end the book", and usually any issues the lawyer had have miraculously disappeared and he's sitting on his front porch (or he takes a vacation to the Bahamas) sipping coffee and reflects upon all that has happened, and then the book ends.

I did also read The Painted House that he wrote, which was really rather good. Doesn't have a single lawyer in it.

Now that I'm out of school I am hoping to read books more often -- I may go pick up the ones you recommend. :)

I haven't read Painted House, started to but got busy with work... But another good non-lawyer Grisham book is Skipping Christmas.... Funny as heck! of course, better than the movie, too.

: )

Well, Harry Potter is coming out in a couple weeks...I have to get that, too!

Alright, I'll admit it.

I've been obsessed with Anne Rice lately. Specifically the Vampire Chronicles.

I don't know why, they just really tickle my fancy. I've shelled out about 50 bucks on books so far.

Hopefully the upcoming Harry Potter book will be able to get me pulled away from my trashy vampire novel obsession :)
