How in the world do you get this to MOVE. Been playing with stuff in the same range of skill as I am..35-40 ish in range and it hasn't moved past dabbling. Is mine broken?

Not sure exactly how experience is awarded with the non-damaging maneuvers, but I find it usually takes a little longer to move up in mindstates with non-offensive brawling than an offensive weapon. Also as you get closer to the cap for a critter, the experience returns seem to diminish earlier or at least more dramatically than offensive attacks.
So depending on what you're hunting, you may just need to move up a smidge on the critter ladder to get it going.
This is just casual observation. Never done any tests on what an apocalyptic hit teaches vs. a circle. It would be interesting though.

But when my brawling was way behind my defenses, I noticed that when I was practicing 40 ranks of brawling on a critter that taught defenses to 200, I was learning really really quickly with bob circle weave.
So either overhunt if you are able (I know this poses a unique challenge to Empaths) or just wait out the slow experience gain patiently. I mean, at least Empaths can learn brawling and most weapons (by parrying, albeit very slowly) without getting shock.
