How do you train this? I'm casting past what discern tells me I can handle but I can barely get this skill moving at all. What's the trick?

I cast lethargy on every critter I face, and it moves pretty reasonably. It's like TM in that the critter must be within teaching range.

Two things. First, Debilitation learning is like training a weapon skill or Targeted Magic. You learn by casting them on a challenging creature, not by putting more mana into them. Use APPRAISE <critter> CAREFUL if you have 100 or so ranks in appraisal to see a line about how well you can learn Debilitation from that creature.

Second, you won't get experience from casting a debilitation on a creature that is already debilitated by that same debilitation unless said debilitation replaces the first effect entirely. I.e. you have to wait for the duration to wear off in order to learn again. In most cases this isn't too big a deal since durations of debilitations are pretty short, but there are a few out there with long durations that make horrible teachers. Yes, Burden, I'm looking at you.

That was the trick! Thank you!
