Greetings from the player of Trintia! For those who might of known her from the Moon Mage Guild, she retired and decided to lend her hand to help heal the wounded of the war. Now for my question...
I was attempting to heal her neck, eyes, abdomen and back and couldn't seem to find the correct prep. I would get the message that it attempts heal the damaged area but was ineffective. I would increase the prep by one up until around 6 or 7 when I backfired. Am I doing something wrong?

If you are a young character, which I am assuming you are (like first or second circle) and your PM is pretty low, you won't be able to heal your back, neck, head, eyes or abdomen. I can not tell you specific number, but I know that for the first while, healing limbs was the only thing I could do.

What I do (and I find this more mana efficient) is prep spells like ESH, IWH, and ISH at min prep. What is min prep for these spells? Just type PREP ESH and that will prep it at minimum for you. Then harness accordingly.

I believe these are the min prep/effective mana:
~ewh - 1/1
~esh - 9/14
~iwh - 6/11
~ish - 11/17
~refresh - 1/1
~vh - 1/1
~bs - 1/1 (although will only last for a few seconds)
The effective mana may drop as you get more skill, but that's the amount I go off of.
I too suggest preping at the min and harnessing enough to make the effective mana, or more for more serious wounds. I also encourage putting cambrinth into your routine as soon as you have enough magical device skill to use it, it'll really help your magic skills in the long run.

And use cambrinth from the get go, too...can usually get more power into your spells at a young age, without backfiring, if you use cambrinth.
If you don't have a cambrinth item, let me know, and I'll find one for you.
p.s. I just thought of something....wouldn't it be nice if from other, nicer looking substances can be infused with life mana and focused on, like cambrinth...but not be cambrinth??? That would make a nifty empath ability, wouldn't it?

I recently realized the advantage of a 1 mana prep of BS. When you check your health and find:
>You are in very bad shape!
Snapcast the min prep and stop the bleeding for a second in order to cast VH. I just learned this...it only took me....nearly 50 circles to learn that!
Why does the easy stuff come so difficult for me??

Eyes, head, and neck are notoriously hard to heal. And in fact you do have to either use a higher prep or use cambrinth. Now, there are a number of empaths who don't do so- but as far as I'm concerned, cambrinth is your friend because it does help you preserve harness once you get sufficient MD skill.
You'll want to work Power Perception too. Your life one day might depend on being able to find good mana quickly.
If you find yourself with a wound you can't handle, there are a number of older empaths who would be willing to help you with it.

I love herbs, but I hate that there are no internal eye herbs. That aside...
There is a book in the Crossing empath library (enter the main room and then go east) that lists healing reagents and what they do. Just a handy reference.

long long time ago I read that book and wrote down what the herbs did on a piece of paper which I keep under my keyboard. Its very handy.
